I think it depends on what you mean by "tolerated by society".

In general, I do not think society should use coercive force to prevent something just because it is morally wrong; I think it requires a much stronger analysis than that.

Is it a sin to be in favor of wanting or working toward making sin tolerated by society?
It's actually worse to help others sin even if he doesn't indulge in it himself.

Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin.". Luke 17:1-2

Uh, that means that if you cause someone to sin, you are worse than someone who sins on their own.

For example, if you are to tempt someone into stealing some money, even though you aren't doing it yourself, then you are even worse than the person stealing it.

It's worse being a drug selling who addict people to drugs, than a drug addict.

"but woe to that person through whom they come."

That says nothing about "Tolerating" a sin, such as, allowing people the freedom to worship gods other that Jehovah, despite that it says distinctly not to in the First Commandment.

So, there you are.
If you are saying that you are sinning by toleration, then you sin everyday for allowing people to have the Freedom of Religion.

I simply don't think that is what the verse is telling you.

Autumnleaf's question isn't as much about personally tolerating sin, but about promoting its tolerance to society. It's like saying it's OK, God didn't really mean what he said. It's one thing to think this way and quite another to influence others to accept it. This takes it to the next level where the verse I quoted starts to kick in.

Wrong. Advocating the social tolerance of "sin" is like saying that it is not the role of civil government to make sure that everyone goes to heaven. If it were, we would routinely have mass baptisms and baby fires.

I agree with you, but I'm not limiting this to the political arena. This also applies to chit chat over coffee.
