Hehehe...Actually, I'm THRILLED to be escaping summer here. It's supposed to be even hotter than last year, and last year we had 30 days in a row over 38 degrees- it got up to 48 degrees. I know it can get pretty hot in Cape Town in the summer but from what I've heard it's very rare for it to get THAT hot. Other parts of SA do though, from what I've been told. Also, compared to other places I've lived, SA winters are VERY mild. When I lived in Missouri, there were times it would get to -62 degrees if you counted wind chill, or -31 degrees without it. There were frostbite warnings- telling you not to be outside for more than 10 minutes at a time, and things like that. Cape Town weather is perfect for me- I even like the rain (and I've lived places it would rain for weeks on end as well, so I know what that's like as well, lol). I'm definitely looking forward to getting there- for everything! (Most especially seeing my fiance of course, but also other friends, the weather, the ocean...)

CT is mild - by SA standards - the winters are a little horrid!
But hey - you cant have it all!

Snow is a rarity here in general - so enjoy the last snows and skiiing if that turns you on!

CT is really a great place - a lot of us here in SA head there for holidays! Sea water is a little cold for us from Natal where the sea is warm - but nothing a wet suit cant sort out!

Hey - you sound like a natural Capetonian.

You just need to learn to drive badly, complain about the guys from Joburg and act kinda really liad back with an "I don't care 'like' attitude" - and everyone will think that you were a local ;)

We always give the Capetonians a hard time!

We have some good friends from the US (Carolinas) living here in Joburg.

They have been here a few years and still struggle with some of the pronounciations - e.g. "water" is a difficult one!

Also some of the local figures of speech:
robot = traffic light
boot = trunk of car
trunk = elephant's nose!
just now = any time from now until next week
now now = as above - possibly a little sooner!
ranch dressing = non-existant in SA
cricket = baseball on Valium

Hi Hidden Face

I have to agree with Tini:) Don't try get rid of your american accent.

I can vouch for him that Cape people can develope funny accents^_^ (I was one of them.)

My family in PE for example, they're chinese but speak in a very very cape accent.
eg: "Yinnah. Howzit Jon a than (Jonathan) ! You getting torl (tall ) hay!"^_^
