I have a sneaking suspicion that you are talking about me. Are you? lol jk. I know you are. Actually, I was just answering the thread. It asked: "What do you like about NKJV?" and I answered: "Hmm...What do I like about the NKJV? hmmm... Nothing. I'm a KJV only kind of guy." Lol. I didn't de-rail the thread, you did when you said:

I don't dislike anything about it. As a matter of fact it is the No.1 choice for the non-denominational churches in my area.

King James gives me the willies!

The NKJV language is also something that I love. Although people say that it is a language that no one ever spoke (true), that's not a problem; no one ever speaks written language. I enjoy the majesty of the language. I think, however, the NKJV departed from some of this majesty. For example, look at John 11:25 in the NKJV compared to the KJV, then compared to the NIV:

KJV: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

NKJV: Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.

NIV: Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;

In this case, the KJV is poetic and majestic: it is absolutely lovely language, and I enjoy saying it. The NKJV, however, has a problem. It's lovely up until the last participle, which lacks a nice conjunctive to bring it together. It's okay, but lacks a special little punch at the end (the "yet" that the KJV contains).

The NIV, on the other hand, is just plain, well, plain. It's just regularly stated as a matter of fact.

Now, none of these is necessarily bad. I don't think we know for sure what kind of language he used. We know his words, but how were they received? Did they come off sounding majesty and poetic? Did they sound plain and matter of fact? Was it a combination? What's ultimately important is that we treat his words as beautiful and wonderful, and the majesty of the words of the only living God.

Thanks for sharing, and since you went to the trouble of pointing it out, would you please point out the troll?

And I am curious, how your post's theme is different than mine.
