Feathered dinosaurs the article did not mention...
Jinfengopteryx
This odd animal was first taken to be a flightless relative of Archaeopteryx, before studies showed it to be a Troodontid dinosaur. It seems very similar to both groups, and may be a transitional form.
Sinornithosaurus
This is, without a doubt, a dromaeosaurid dinosaur, with eccentric feathering, such as an Elvis-like toupee on a specimen nicknamed "Dave".
Cryptovolans
A four winged relative of Microraptor. Its feathers make for half the tail length.
Dilong
A relative of Tyrannosaurus. It preserves unquestionable "protofeathers", what appears to be an intermediate between scales and feathers.
Epidendrosaurus/ Scansiopteryx
These odd creatures, similar to both birds and dinosaurs, are difficult to class in either group, due to a very derived body plan.
Beipaiosaurus
A primitive therizinosaur, also with unquestionable protofeathers. They are about 2 inches long on the arms, with a hollow core- exactly what should be found in a quill/feather intermediate.
Mei
A primitive Troodontid dinosaur, found sleeping in the same position as a bird.
Sinocalliopteryx
A HUGE relative of Sinosauropteryx, similar to Dilong in some details of its anatomy.
Shuuvuia
This dinosaur, once considered to be a bird, has feathers that were CHEMICALLY proven.
Pedopenna
This is a dromaeosaur/troodontid/archaeopteryx-like animal, known from complete, articulated foot and leg bones with symmetrical feathers.
In other words, CreationWiki is bunk.
See you later folks! I'm gonna be talking about Fedducia and Archaeopteryx!
Wrong. Pedopenna and an undescribed Troodontid are older. (Although the latter does not bear feathers, they are present in its close relative Mei) Protoavis is a chimera, not a bird.It needs to be noted from the start that all of the so called feathered dinosaurs are dated as younger than the birds Protoavis and Archaeopteryx.
Correct, though the reverse is also true (feathered animals, such as Jinfengopteryx and Shuuvuia, that turned out to be dinosaurs instead of birds.)There is evidence that in at least some cases these so called feathered dinosaurs are really misidentified birds.
True again, and I know palaeontologists who think some of these are complete forgeries. It is, however important to note that Archaeoraptor, the only dino-bird forgery that was proven to be such, was glued together- there is no way I know to simulate feathers on a fossil. Also all these fossils are from China. China is known to have a fake fossil industry. This places a question mark on all such finds
No dinosaur is called "Dromaeosaur"! The Dromaeosaurs are a certain group that lived from 125 million to 65 million years ago.Dromaeosaur
Dated at 130 million years
Dromaeosaur was found in China, and did have feathers. More recent fossils have shown definite evidence of flight feather. The available evidence not only shows that Dromaeosaur had flight feathers but that it could actually fly. It now appears that Dromaeosaur was indeed a bird. Furthermore it can be shown that Dromaeosaur was probably variety of Archaeopteryx.
Rather ironic seeing this part of the article claims Microraptor was a dinosaur, while the part on it claims it was either a fake or a bird. If the fossils had been kept apart, they would have provided extremely valuable evidence for dino-bird evolution.Archaeoraptor
Dated at 120 millions of years
Hoax
Hind quarters of a micro raptor, (a dinosaur ) were connected to a bird fossil.
The Archaeoraptor hoax exposed the existence of a fake fossil business in China. It got started because complete fossils bring in more money than partial ones. This discovery has not shut down the operation, and so any fossils from China not proven to be other wise, could be assumed to be a product of the hoaxers. It should be noted that the most of the recent feathered dinosaurs are all form China, and there for suspect. It must, however, in all fairness be pointed out that the hoax was revealed by evolutionists within 3 months, indicating some quality control is applied.
Remarkably deep. Suffices to say most of this has been debunked.
It's the depth again...
What is the point of this entry (other than misspelling Sinosauropteryx)? Fedducia's claim is indeed without merit. Collagen fibers are worlds away from what Sinosauropteryx has.Sinosaurropteryx
Dated at 140 - 120 millions years
Sinosaurropteryx was a dinosaur. The "feathers" were called frayed collagen fibers by evolutionist Feduccia, a claim described as "without merit" by other evolutionists, thus demonstrating even evolutionists dont agree.
No- that is just what the discoverers implied. There are many other possible ways for Microraptor to glide. It is ironic to see the entry claims that if the dinosaur is not a fake, then it is a bird.Microraptor gui
"Early Cretaceous" Dated at 128-124 million years
Microraptor gui was a four winged animal. If it is not a fake, it would seem to be a type of gliding bird (or perhaps a bit like a flying squirrel). This is supported by the three misidentified birds given above. It is also supported by the fact that for this animal to glide it would need to spread its hind legs in a manner not possible for a dinosaur.
Denver Fowler (a palaeontologist I know) would agree with them there...There are reasons to question the validity of this find. All but one of the Microraptor gui fossils were purchased from a dealer. Given the proven fake fossil business in China, such fossils are suspect without extensive study, such as X-Ray and under UV light. The one fossil acutely found by the discoverers of Microraptor gui, had only one feather, and there seems to be some doubt about it actually being part of the fossil, thus its provisional status as a 'bird'.
