what is Gods name

MT 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

What is the Name of the Father, Son, Holy Ghost?

Some say YAHWEH,JEHOVAH

If one of these two are right then why do we speak of the three persons but do not say the name when we baptise?

Apart from Jehovah and Jesus being real names, the rest of these are just titles.

For Help me learn:

The name of the Father is Jehovah or Yahweh whichever you prefer, Jehovah being the most noted and used.

The name of the son is Jesus (no points for that)

And the name of the Holy Spirit is......Just The Holy Spirit.

When the scripture says to baptize in the name of, it means in the sence of recognition of the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  In the same sense as something done in "The Name of the Law" means in recognition of the Law.

The book of Enoch (secrets of Enoch) chapter 20 explains:

And those two men lifted me up thence on to the seventh heaven, and I saw there a very great light, and fiery troops of great archangels, incorporeal forces, and dominains, orders and governments, cherubim and seraphim, thrones and many-eyes ones, nine regiments, the loanit stations of light, and I became afraid, and began to tremble with great terror, and those men took me, and led me after them and said,

Have courage, Enoch, do not fear, and showed me the Lord from afar, sitting on His very high throne. For what is there on the tenth heaven, since the Lord dwells there?

On the tenth heaven is God, in the hebrew tongue he is called *Aravat.

All the heavenly troops would come and stand on the ten steps according to their rank, and would bow down to the Lord, and would again go to their places in joy and felicity, singing songs in the boundless light with small and tender voices, gloriously serving Him.

*Aravat. Or father of creation.

The book of Revelation tells us (Jesus Christ/His son):

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written that no man knew but he himself.
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word Of God.
And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of the Almighty God.
And he hath written on his vesture and on his thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

(and the Holy Ghost)

John 14
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.
Even the spirit of truth; whom the world cannot recieve, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth in you, and shall be in you.
I will not leave you comfortless.

I John:4 tells us:

There are three that bear record in heaven: The father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: these three are one.

Hope this helps.

Jehovah is the common modern day English way of pronouncing the divine name which is found in the Bible some 7,000 times.

Unfortunately, many English Bibles, though not all, have removed the divine name and thus the confusion as to who the true God is.

For example, in the King James, the divine name can be found at Psalm 83:18 and it is rendered Jehovah. Sad to say, in the more recently published King James Bibles, the divine name has been removed altogether.

This is not the case in many other languages. In South America, for example, many people will tell you that God's name is Jehovah, as the removal of the divine name in Spanish Bibles is not as pervasive as in English.

Imagine you are a well known artist and you have spent years working on a masterpiece. One evening, someone creeps into your studio, and paints over your signature that is in the lower right hand corner. They then paint in, the word......'Artist'.

How would you feel? Is the title wrong? Who will get credit for the masterpiece? Could art lovers become misled? Will the value diminish?

Maybe it wasn't a painting but an annual report your boss was waiting for. Or maybe it was a distertation your professor was looking forward to.

Can you see the implications and confusion that could abound?

True, no one knows the exact pronunciation of the tetragrammaton...YHWH, but even that has been removed from many Bibles. And in common everyday English, we say Mary, Jesus, Joseph, Jeremiah, Jacob, etc. when they were not the exact pronunciation of long ago.

Yeshua = Yah is Salvation

The Old Testament did point to Jesus - but with the name Yeshua.

Correct, yet we all use the name Jesus and feel quite correct in doing so.  Thats another good reason to use the name Jehovah over Yaweh or any other, because it is the commonly known version of God's name and we would be correct in doing so.

Thanks people. that is alot of good info.

But have you ever heard of Gods name being called Yahoo

no kidding, there is a guy on the radio that says it is Yahoo not Yahweh

He is silly...this is the story of that name.

In Hebrew it is YHWH but the Jews consider that name too holy to pronounce so they would say Adonai for every instance of YHWH. As a reminder they would mark the scrolls from the Hebrew of these marking it was eventually shortened to Jehovah, being transliterated the combination of YHWH + Adonai.

So that guy doesn't know what he is talking about.

I think the most proper title to refer to God would be Elohim since it is the first word used (Gen 1:1) and refers to the plurality of the Godhead (Father, Son, Holy Ghost).

But then, think about it, none of this would be accomplished.

Exodus 3:15
“This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘Jehovah the God of YOUR forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to YOU.’ This is my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generation after generation.

Psalm 22:22
22 I will declare your name to my brothers;
In the middle of the congregation I shall praise you.

Psalm 83:18
18 That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah,
You alone are the Most High over all the earth.

Just a thought.

God's Name is different in evry language! I would like to state that if God truly is what he is described to be that there must be an infinite number of names that can be uttered by the tongue of flesh. It is the meaning of the name that makes it God's.

The Names of God are diverse, and some names are considered so sacred that the name has a name to substitute for the use of the name. for instance Tetragrammaton is a greek word that means "A four letter name" Tetra meaning four gram meaning letter and the maton I am still unsure as to how it is broken apart. The word Tetragrammaton is reffering to the Hebrew (יהוה) Yod He Vav He (written from right to left) which has commonly been transliterated to Jehova but more commonly translated to LORD in order to retain the number of letters. The reason why is uncertain.

Although the name Yahweh makes a very interesting impresion to me because it is pronounced ee ah u eh ee, which completes a circle of vowel sounds. God being an eternal being never changing, being without begining of days or end of years, has one name that depicts this fact precicely. the name being a cirular round that never ends.

Woah, man, JLovesUSo...wow...you got it down man. God's name is not something we know. I know that he is our abba. Just like you would not call your father by his name, so we do not call our daddy by his name...we call him Lord and all sorts of things because most children do not really know their fathers name. Until we have grown up completely and are perfect in his sight (heaven) we will not know his name. Until then, I shall stick to calling him my dearest abba (daddy).

First of all, this verse is referring to the authority of God, not the name of God.

Now, even if it were referring to God's name, the Bible in many instances refers to the Father as "the Father", Jesus as "the Son" and the Holy Spirit as "the Holy Spirit" so I don't see that this would be a problem either way.
