Luke 12:29-34
29 And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. 30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you. 32 Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

There's some real good stuff in that short passage of scripture. :)
Yes, FortunateSon, it is a wonderful scripture. We should give our cares to God, go about being good stewards, work as if to the Lord, not focusing on the provision, but always appreciating, marveling at it. God will take care of tomorrow, we just have to do our part today.

IMO, this challenge (sell all you have and give to the poor) was made only to those contemporaries to whom Jesus addressed it. I do not believe it is a universal requirement for all Christians in all times. There is no evidence that it was required of Christians after Christ completed His mission on earth, either from Acts or the Epistles.

Yes I am using the word of God, you are not! And, I'm rubber, you're glue. Whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you! Ha-ha-ha-ha!
When someone says that they are speaking thhe word of God from Scripture, but one with a different belief or understanding is not, they are just using a cheap ploy to discredit truth. Isn't that essentially what you said to me in an earlier post?

Now here some Words of God that say your opinion is all-wrong:

(Luke 12:33) “Sell your possessions and give alms. Get yourselves purses that do not wear out, treasure that will not fail you, in Heaven where no thief can reach it and no moth destroy it. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

(Luke 14:33) “So in the same way, none of you can be my disciple unless he gives up all his possessions

(Matthew 6:19) “Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and woodworms destroy them and thieves can break in and steal.”

(Luke 6:30-35) “Give to everyone who asks you, and do not ask for your property back from the man who robs you. Treat others, as you would like them to treat you. If you love those who love you, what thanks can you expect? Even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do food to you, what thanks can you expect? For even sinners do that much. And if you lend to those from whom you hope to receive what thanks can you expect? Even sinners lend to sinners to get back the same amount. Instead, love your enemies and do good, and lend without any hope of return. You will have a great toward, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked.
Now I haven’t seen you quote one scripture yet, all you have given everyone is your opinion.

yeah...its all about the heart...God blesses his people...and these same people...if asked by God...should be able to let it all go...and this could only happen if they have a close relationship with God...and despite the riches can trust him for their daily needs...and also fear God...

here is anice verse which says a lot:

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God." (Matthew 19:24)

Referencing that scripture I posted earlier, it dawns on me that I've never done one part of it. Not that I rebelled against it, but that the thought just never occured to me. It says, "sell what you have and give alms". I've always just given from my income, I've never even thought about selling something I have just to give the money to somebody.

There would be an instant blessing that goes with it too. I'd no longer have all the stuff in my way! :D

Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

There's some real good stuff in that passage of scripture

The funny thing is - the more I give away, the more I prosper. Hmm....

I agree!

But what's that middle part all about? The, "good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over" part?

Sorry, Giver, I can post scripture until my fingers are sore to some people, and they just twist, or more often ignore, it. In real life, face to face, of course, that is much harder to do. I just speak truth, and those who have ears will hear. I asked Ken some questions earlier, would you mind answering them?

Let me ask you, do you think it wrong, out of God's plan, for a man to marry? If so, we can agree to end this dialogue. if you do not believe it is wrong for a man to marry, do believe it is wrong, in God's eyes, for a man to want good things, a nice house, security, etc.. for his wife and children? Is it sinful in God's eyes for a man to wish to leave an inheritance for his children?

If your heart is on your possessions, if they are YOURS, not God's, you would be better off selling them. If your eye causes you to sin, you would be better off to pluck it out than go to hell. Shall we all pluck out our eyes, then?

Do hou own the computer you are on right now? Do you own a car or a house? The unmitigated gaul of some people, teaching one thing as the word of Christ, yet hypocritically living another way, is totally astounding to me. It gives Christians a bad name.

No, I do not think it is wrong to marry. If one is living with great passion, they should by all means get married. If it is for you to do, you can stay unmarried. I have found through marriage, there are so many problems, maybe because I am with a Christian woman who does not understand a whole lot. We have been divorced for about a year, have been living together for the last 3 months in seperate beds, and/or rooms. She is going to get married, and I am free. It is better for a man to live on the corner of a rooftop, than to live with a nagging wife. Or, like water constantly dripping in a rainstorm, is like living with a nagging wife. So, it is right to marry for some, but not for others. At this point I am focusing completely on God, going to church, apologetics, the wind and the water, the Holy Spirit. If someone comes along those lines, and I pray to God this is the case, I will get married again. I need a woman that only concentrates on God, not that we don't do the chores around the house and stuff, but is always open to the word of God.

Ken, thanks for answering. I agree, having been married twice. A good marriage is incredable, wonderful. A bad one is horrible. Most are in-between, but constant work, compassion and love will always make them better.
I know you were not suggesting that everyone follow your calling to sell everything, and give the money to the poor. Most of us would be closer to God if we did so, but many others might suffer because of it. I try to keep my eyes on God, and not grab on too tightly to material things and money.

Brother, I am hearing something in me, that I want to know if it is from God or just myself. I am facing a big change in my life, going to live with my parents possibly for awhile, finding another church, getting out on my own. Beleive me, I do not want to be a 35 year old, living with my parents, little sissy boy. I have been thinking about giving all my stuff to my ex-wife, and just going on the road till I get to Las Vegas, or I'll just take my car, my necessities and go to Las Vegas. Or, I can go away for a few days and just fast, seek the Lord, read my bible, and just be immersed. You know, it is good to have opinions from many advisors, right. I do not want to give up everything, but I do not want to be attached to it, either. I saw a bumper sticker once that said, "In case of rapture, the car is yours." I yelled out, you can keep your car." But, I thought it was thought provoking, that any day when the Lord comes, we could just be whisked out of here, but when he does, what if our fists are still in that coconut, like the monkey. I want to be in heaven, not on this earth. We will not have cars in heaven, we have all eternity to go where we need to go. I want to see everyone of you there also. Do any of you think you are great, sometimes I do, and I need to be a servant to all. God bless you brothers and sisters. I always appreciate chatting with you guys.

"Sell all you have, pay off your debts, give to the poor, and pick up your cross and follow me." Anybody else hearing this? "Look up to the sky, for your redemption draws nigh."

I am surprised at all the "controversy" and "debate" this simple question has started! :)

It would like a simple "yes" or "no" answer would do.
Either one has heard these things, or he has not.

It does not make a person "good" or "bad" if they have heard these things, or not.
It just "is"! :)

What is important, it would seem, is that those that have heard this call in their hearts respond obediently, as obedience is pleasing to the Lord.

(Great thread topic, kenblaster5000! btw, are you now hearing these things?)

When I divorced my first wife, I gave her pretty much everything I had worked for my entire life except my truck, guns and fishing poles, coonhounds, and my clothes. She was the adulter, by the way. I then went to college 20 hours a semester, plus worked full time nights for minimum wage (I had an 8th grade education). I lived on ramen and tuna for lunch and dinner nearly every day, and mush (Oatmeal) for breakfast. And, I really got much closer to God through it. Would have been much better had I been more still inside, instead of driving myself so hard.

I tell you what, when I give, whether it is a little, a tithe, or with an offering., I am first blessed with knowledge wisdom, a great sense of God's blessing, and that is what brings returns on my giving. It builds my faith, I get into the word, God rebukes the devour, it is written, I get blessed in those things of heaven, things drop off of my life, and when they drop off, my provision is not exhausted. I always have enough. I have not been tithing, and offering when I feel like going to church, and I have moved in with my ex-wife, and my money is going down the hole, but now I am starting to offer with a right heart, to give back to God, my ex-wife wants me out, the money is not going down the hole, and I am free to study and speak the word without any scoffing out of her, though I do any way. It is funny, you gotta look at the look on her face. It is classic. Maybe, instead of going to be a vagabond like Cain, I should go on giving more to God, staying in the word, taking up fasting, praying for the right church, for now, I feel close again, and closer to God than I ever have been. And how much more closer can I get? Until He says, hey back off of me, give me a little space? No, kidding.
