For Characters per minute.... that's not to bad, I probally hit that many, maybe more of course I make a lot of typos, some I go back and fix, others I don't... depends on what I'm typing.... not a real good reflection of your typing skills because sometimes you can type slower or faster than you would when you test yourself in a class....

For Words per minute it's kinda radically insane, it's measured by the character blocks you can produce in a minute, usually done by counting how fast you type out words... less sophisticated software will give you false readings because you can just bang keys to get a high number, the average for a basic typer is 45 80 for a skilled typist, to be higher is to be someone who's either on the computer all day or a secretary or a recorder at court... as far as the right area, this seems the best one, it is open ended... Keystrokes per minute? I'd have no idea, generally it is measured in words per minute (wpm) or adjusted words per minute (awpm) and that's what they test you on when you apply for any general clerical type work or something. Generally I can do around 40 awpm more or less depending on how I'm feeling though I can probably score higher but I usually backspace myself instead of just taking the accuracy hit (always score 100% on awpm). That's including punctuation and actual capital letters with out caps lock being on the whole time (joke). I can probably do 60 wpm flat out... readable. That would be what, 400 keystrokes or so? To avg 30 awpm is good, some clerical jobs only require 20 awpm. Lots of software out there to practice and test with. The one I use does not let you bang away with whatever you want to get a high score, not unless you know shortcuts to typing the Decoration of Independence or wish to rewrite it in your own style ;)

Well I had like 65 words per minute.. with a 157 key strokes per minute.. So does that mean, I'm really fast, or that I make a lot of mistakes :D
It was 5 minute timed test for a job.. and I was just wondering if ya'll knew anything about the key strokes per minute..
Thanks for your help :)

that depends on your typo count.... but if you can do that under pressure of getting a job, you might be a good candidate for doing that regularly....

that is if that was your normal speed and not cause by a)stress b)overwhelming desire for the job.... either would introduce more natural steroids(adrenaline) into the body which could be sent out nervous fingers.... just a thought....

if it is natural ability and you are ability to do a steady output then you might have the job, depends on how answered their other questions and what extra things you put down that you've done that would be of interest to them....

65 wpm at 157 key strokes sounds like speed building words. 157 at 65 that’s like two or three characters per word? Most words have like five or six characters not counting spaces and punctuation which adds in as well. I’m not sure what software you are using, I’m still using Typing Instructor Deluxe Edition by Individual Software inc. 65 is over a word a second, generally regular words mixed with some easy and hard words. The reach drills are the hardest to score high at awpm.

I can get 37wpm, which is considered pretty good...

40wpm is considered a 'fast' or 'above average' typist, and 65wpm is very fast. But 167 characters per minute is fairly normal, is that. Usually a 5-7 letter word is the average length (Mavis Beacon, Typing Tutor, etc.), which out be (at 65wpm)... 5 x 65 = 325 charcters. So 40 wpm = 5 x 40 = 200 wpm, a bit faster than it sounds like you are at.

Oh, and backspace is not counted as a keystroke.

I took an Administrative Assistant course for 1/2 a year... I didn't finish it because I left to go work. It was so hard because they wanted me to totally change how I place my hands!!! Drove me crazy!! I've been doing it my own way for so long.

We needed to get 25 wpm for December, and 50 wpm for graduation in June. I had 100+ wpm to start.

Not to mention the layout of the keyboard, I naturally type on a qwerty keyboard, if I were sat in front of a dvorak keyboard or the one hand keyboard I would be lost and slow, also a qwertz would throw me off, because of how I've always typed.....

and I'm sorry you didn't get the job allieisme, but that's just one more door you know you don't need to walk though, keep looking and praying
