Apologies if this sounds like a rant.

Please respond in support or challenge. I want to feel that I am not misguided in my thoughts and that christian's all around the world should try and turn the tide of commercialising the gift of god.

Prayer is a gift. God gave us this gift so we can feel confident that their will always be two pairs of foot prints in the sand.

I am tired, very tired of the continuous use of premium rate numbers on our tv screens for the purchase of a ministers prayer. It seems to be getting more and more ridiculous and actually discourages non believers in coming to our churches.

So called ministers are appearing on our tv screens, so say spreading the christian message while at the same time getting rich quick off the back of people phoning in to obtain a prayer from their team of intercessors. This is not gods work.

Jesus is coming and it will be the tv temple that will be brought down this time.

Cash for prayers, cash for healing and cash for counciling has no place in the church of jesus.

With this in mind. How do we reach those that find the need to phone. Many phone these numbers out of sheer desperation that they feel that they cannot go on. They have no one to turn to.

Is there the desire to create a global ministry that runs on the love of christ and not the pockets of the desperate.

Please help to find the answer, this must be dealt with.

Friends,
I agree that it is wicked. Others may dwell on exposing the shameful deeds of the church. But we at Prayer Ministry go one step further, and petition to the Lord for the church with tears and repentance. Let us continue our discussion after we did the intercessory praying.

Thank you.

This is a reflection of how poorly the church as a whole is dealing with spreading “The Good News.” Local churches in the areas where these people are located should be going out into the communities and spreading the Gospel. I realize that that may be something they are doing and that they cannot reach every person in their area.

It is also a reflection of how greed can corrupt even the best of people. The televangelists and such have decided that it’s easy to make a quick buck off of the problems of these people. Let’s face it… they can’t make money if they tell their viewers that all they have to do is call upon Jesus and He will be there.

The other side of that coin is that running a television ministry is quite expensive and the money must come from somewhere. But I think that those who are led into that direction should seek the counsel of God and know that He will provide whatever is necessary. Television ministries are in and of themselves not a bad thing. If that’s what they are being used for… ministering the Word of God. Asking for money to get a healing, or for a prayer, etc. is just downright ludicrous.

I agree with Rupert…we must pray that those seeking guidance would seek guidance from God and not from someone on the TV. The prayers they offer up are no better than the ones we can say ourselves…the oil they have is no better than the oil we have in our cupboard…they may be more eloquent and such but that does not mean God hears their prayers any more loudly or any sooner… Prayer with God is our communication with Him. And we should all feel comfortable enough to tell Him anything in prayer…
