The Difference a Touch Makes!!

But...when they came to the threshing-floor of Nacon, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen stumbled. And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error and there he died by the ark of God (2 Sam. 6:6,7).

To many Christians and non-Christians alike this seems to be one of the harshest stories in the Bible. How could Uzzah be taken out like that? He and his brother were driving the cart and all he had tried to do was stop the precious ark from falling? Even King David was upset that God had taken such drastic action, but God had warned that this furniture was precious and holy and only priests should touch it.

Lesson Learnt: If you believe what God has said, you better believe he said it for a reason and he will back the statement with all his authority.

As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped (Luke 8:43-44).

This woman, anaemic and faint fought her way through the crowd going to Jairus' house. No doctor could stop the haemorraging. Not only was her body losing life but also her soul. She reached out and touched the hem of Jesus' cloak. Was the cloak magical? People were pressing against Jesus all the time but he specifically felt "his power gone out of him". The woman who touched him fell at his feet and told Jesus why she had touched him, he responded by saying "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace."

Lesson Learnt: It's not the cloak, or "power" in the cloak, but an unyielding faith in Jesus that heals mind, body and soul, no matter how unclean you are.

God doesn't need our help, because he is the source of our help. What a difference a touch makes. Stay blessed.

Father in heaven, I pray that we listen to your instructions. I pray we submit our hearts in obedience to you in love, knowing that you tell us things for a reason. Help us to reach out to you in faith for healing of mind, body and soul. Amen.

Was just reading over this devotional again, and reflected on two points.

God takes obedience to him very seriously. It is nothing that we should trivialize over. Indeed although not under the pain of immediate death as old Israel was, to be disobedient and reject the calling of the Holy Spirit??!! Well.......

Secondly that all it takes from God to heal us wholly- mind, body and spirit -is just one touch.

Blessings
Dave
