Have you even listened to Mortification? Death's Scream Bloody Gore which I hate is even better than them.

And on top of horribly dumb lyrics, the guy can barely growl.

Their riffs are repetitive and generic.

Their newer stuff isn't too bad, but still can't compare to anything by pretty much any other death metal band.

Go listen to some Nile, Behemoth, Aborted, Dismember, or Cryptopsy and tell me mortification's still great.

/Doesn't know when he's heard anything worse.

I agree...I'm not a fan of Mortification. They are far too mellow to be considered a metal band.
There are plenty of great hardcore/metal christian acts out there that are VERY talented (Becoming the Archetype, i'm looking at you!) but...Mortification is NOT one of them. Go listen to some The Showdown instead. (which has received top honors from many a secular metal communities AND bands alike)

I do like a lot of Christian metal, but I mostly listen to secular metal since those bands are generally better than comparable Christian metal bands (ones that play similar styles), and there are quite a few metal subgenres that are pretty much nonexistent in Christian metal (like technical death metal, funeral doom, sludge, avant garde metal....).

I really wasn't all that impressed with The Showdown.
I agree with you that Becoming The Archetype is talented in the highest degree.

I was only aware of A Chorus Of Obliteration. I mean, they have some cool guitars, but it sounds a wee bit like As Cities Burn for my taste (I like As Cities Burn, but a little of them goes a long ways for me.;).) A little disapointing since I expected it to be really awesome metal.

Sludge Metal?.....is that when I don't change the Oil in my car enuff and the Valvoline tech where I get my oil changed at pops his out from under the car and screams at me?.........;)
avant garde metal?.....seriously that's a title?...really?

I thought Mallcore was the worst I had heard....

Avant Garde according to Wikipedia
Avant-garde / in French it means front guard, advance guard, or Vanguard People often use the term in French and English to refer to people or works that are experimental or novel, particularly with respect to art, culture and politics.
According to its champions, the avant-garde pushes the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm within definitions of art/culture/reality.

Wow...that could be any kind of newish ground breaking metal......a little general for me...*sigh*

Ok first off let me say that Underoath is not metal. Nor is Emery.

Ok now, Im not a christian but there are a few christian bands that appeal to me ( Becoming The Archetype, Mortal Treason, The Showdown ) Not saying these bands are "amazing" but its pretty good stuff esspecially with BTA.

But then again I hate the term "christian metal" I mean, the topic of a song should not reflect a genre. Thats like me writing a song about a boat and saying its "boat metal" .

And also, this stuff about "metal cant be christian b/c it has screaming" is a load of crap. Growling and screaming is nothing but pure passion, and to me thats what I think god would want. When I think about gods "theme music" I automatically think some epic death metal....it just says " almighty power"

Well, mallcore isn't actually a genre; it's a derogatory term used to describe metalcore bands that are more hardcore than metal, like Atreyu and Bullet for My Valentine, as opposed to ones that are more metal than hardcore, like Shadows Fall, Neaera, and The Red Chord.

Unexpect is a really good avant-garde metal band. You should check them out.

Ephel Duath is also really good, although they use less metal. However, their first cd, Phormula (Rephormula includes Phormula and some songs from their demo tape), is avant-garde black metal.

This is another thing I dont get.

Metalcore is a cross between metal and hardcore. So whay are bands like The red Chord and Atreyu and such engulfed in this genre?

Most "metalcore" bands have no hardcore influence whatsoever. When it comes to metalcore the only band I can think of that would actually fit would be Throwdown, b/c they have an obvious hardcore influence... along with such bands as bury your dead and terror.

But to call Atreyu and The Red Chord metalcore just doesnt work...Atreyu sounds more like Bon Jovi and The Red Chord is very much leaning tward death metal than anything else.

Metalcore, at least to all metal fans I know, is a very derogatory term. To metal fans, metalcore sucks no matter what it is.

There isn't a whole lot of Christian metal to suit my tastes, but here are a few...

Antestor
Vaakevandring
Frosthardr
Crimson Moonlight
Slechtvalk
Extol [early]

Most of the metal I listen to is in the secular realm. It's very difficult to get a hold of the good Norwegian "unblack" acts. It took months to get Frosthardr and Vaakevandring EPs...

I get most of that stuff from Radrockers; I bought those two in particular a few years ago and it only took three days to arrive since I used first class shipping.

I bought mine from Endtime Records I think... it took absolutely forever. A lot of the stuff I'd want to buy isn't even in print anymore. Return of the Black Death can't be had without spending like $50, I've never seen any old Crimson Moonlight on eBay or anything... d'oh.

I'm gonna have to look into this Radrockers, though. Thanks for the tip.

Anyone else looking forward to Neal Morse's new one coming out soon? I plan on getting that once it is released, I am also going to try to pick up the new the Showdown today.

Radrockers is a good place to find hard to get music, that is a good recommendation. I got Pursuit and Destra from their at a very reasonable price and it can be hard to find prog music with a Christian point of view in the lyrics.

I have almost given up on mainstream "Christian" metal music. I am almost compeletly searching for independant and unsigned artists anymore, it seems that emo gets pushed the most and that is not my style.
