• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi Chloe.

Congratulations on being in recovery for 7 months.

The topic of a meeting I attended last week was how overly sensitive people with drinking problems tend to be. I think our over sensitivity and our inability to deal with the hurts in life is one of the reason we turn to alcohol to dull the pain.

Part of our challenge is to learn to continue on doing the things we need to do inspite of being hurt.

Now if AA helps you in your recovery you have a responsibility to continue on with it even when you are hurt by the actions of people there. And I'm saying this as someone that recently didn't go to meetings for several months for the same reason that you stopped.

But you know sweety, we need to learn to grow up and face the pain of life, continuing to do those things that we need to do to get ourselves in the best shape we can so that God can use us for His glory.

Now, I'm an old lady of 50 years old and I'm just starting to learn that lesson. You are such a young lady. Please learn that lesson while your young...don't wait till your an old lady like me. :)

Learn to seek God with all of your heart Chloe. To me that's what AA is all about.

Ask God to strengthen your heart so that the hurts of life don't stop you from doing those things you need to do. Keep your focus on Him. Sometimes we put to much focus on people. That is why they can sometimes hurt us so much.

It is really a blessing to have people we can lean on, but there are different ways to lean. There is the leaning we do on people knowing that they are not perfect and will probably hurt us and then there is leaning on God who will always do what's best for us.

Don't lean on people the same way that you lean on God. God is really a jealous God. He always wants to be first in our life. This is a lesson that I'm currently learning. God is strengthening me so that I know that I can lean on people but in a sort of reserved way. I don't need to lean on them completely because God wants me to reserve that for Him.

By not leaning on people completely I mean that we don't lean on them so much that we can be so hurt by them that we just want to withdraw from life and not do the things we need to do. We lean on them knowing that they are human and they are not perfect. And we run to God to get the strength that only He can give us to deal with the pain of being hurt by people.

As God strengthen us as we seek Him the hurts we receive in life become smaller and smaller hurts as we learn to put our trust and our confidence in God. It's not actually that the hurts are smaller, but that God protects our hearts and our minds.

philippians 4:6-8
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

That verse has become so importants to me. God says that He will guard our heart and our minds.

Now, remembering that verse I use to ask God to protect my heart and my mind. But, God finally opened my eyes to the rest of that verse, "but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." I was expecting God to protect my heart and my mind without me doing what He told me to do.

Now I tell God EVERYTHING in my prayers and petitions. I usually repeat that bible verse first and I'm sure to give God thanks and praise in Lord Jesus' name and then I say something like, "here are my prayers, petitions, and requests Father." And then I tell Him EVERYTHING. I petition anything I want. I request anything I want. I feel God will sort it out. If I ask for something that isn't in His will I won't get it. But I will get everything that is in His will. And so then I can relax. I've given EVERYTHING to my dear heavenly Father, knowing that He will now protect my heart and my mind.

1John 5:14-15
14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him.

Please don't hesitate to private message me Chloe and I have some IM's and would be happy to talk to you if you need to talk. I will keep you in my prayers Chloe.

God loves us all so much Chloe. Let us press on to seek Him with all of our heart and to strengthen ourselves in every way that we can so that we can serve Him the best we possibly can. He deserves nothing less from us!

Oh Chloe I'm so sorry that happened to you. It's really hard to trust again when someone doesn't respect your privacy like that.

I had told one lady something. I don't even remember what it was now. She decided I needed help and before the meeting she was loudly going around to people telling them my situation. Her husband is in the program too and he said, "there she goes telling your business to everyone!" ^_^

My tendency is to be very secretive with my problems though and I think she actually helped me loosen us some in that regards. I find hearing people talk about my difficulties in dealing with life rather humbling. God know I need humility and is just providing it as I now look at it. I can even laugh about it now. And, she was actually trying to help or so I try to tell myself. LOL

Hi Chloe.

I was just thinking about you and wondering how your doing.

I was at a large meeting the other day and a lady was talking about having the same thing that happened to you happen with her sponsor. It was condemned by everyone there as it should be.

I guess this sort of thing happens more often than we would like to think.

I pray your doing good Chloe.
