100% wool?! Golly. That really is expensive.

Have you ever tried crocheting with Wendy Velvet Touch? Aaaargh!!

Also, does anyone else like chunky yarn the best?
I don't know what Wendy Velvet Touch is...?

I get 100% wool here for about $4 for a 50g ball. It's not cheap. That's for the fuzzier quality stuff. The crepe quality, 100% wool, which is nicer to crochet with and more durable, is $5 for a 50g ball. Am thinking of getting it in bulk when I can afford it.

I have a problem... I've been crocheting a two-colour striped hat for myself, and have most of it done. Alas, it didn't get smaller as I was expecting it to but, instead, got wider. Now it's much too big and am not sure what to do with it. Can't bring myself to unravel the entire thing and start from scratch (to make a baby hat, which is what the original plan was), but I can't afford to just make a hat that I'm never going to use because it's too big. What would you do? I'm thinking I'm going to have to unravel it all, which I find discouraging.

Can you follow patterns? If so, make a few crocheted daisies and crochet them on - it'd be lovely!

Unravelling work is just soul-destroying. Yeah, a bag would work. Twould be quite hippyish and boho, but that's not a bad thing... hopefully :)

Where did you get the pattern for your teddy bears and toys? I'd love to try that one day. Do you have any pics you can upload of some of your work? :)

The bears are only a few inches tall. I got that pattern from a magazine because my friend is having a baby girl.

I find patterns from magazines, books, websites... alot of websites.

My to favs to look at:

insanely good
http://www.roxycraft.com
also very good.. I'm making one of her patterns now.

I don't have any pics now, but I could put some up a little later.

How about turning it into a bag?

Yup yup that would be good.. I was thinking of a bunny & using the long ears as the strap?

What does that mean? Like, where it splits?

BJ, can I ask you a crocheting question, please? When I do sc or dc, in trying to make a granny square, I tend to end up with triangley type shapes. Sooooo annoying. Every now and then they work fine and I can't figure out what I'm doing differently... can you help at all, maybe please? If I've made any sense... :)

Hmmm, are you following a written pattern?

Kind of. Am really rubbish at them, though. Always get lost within a line or so  I've figured out you need to do an extra stitch at both ends, but it's still going wrong... Sorry, lady. Am not really giving you much to go on :sigh:

Yay for approaching 1000 posts on this thread!

 These last few posts reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask:

Is it just me, or do other people get put off by the term "granny squares"? I didn't know what they were called until I recently renewed my childhood interest in crocheting. I know crocheting and knitting's making a comeback, but I wonder if crocheting would be more popular if the basic shape wasn't called a "granny square"? What do you all think? Just out of curiosity :)

The problem is in your foundation row you are not making enough corners. Instead of making four you are making three, which makes a trangle. Before you start your second row count how many open spaces (corners) to make sure you have four, if you only have three go back and make another. If you could post a picture that would confirm that this is indeed the problem.
