I'd say that any music that doesn't have any explicitly anti-Christian lyrics is fine. It seems rather legalistic to say that a specific brand of music is intrinsically evil.

Of course, I don't personally listen to any secular music, so I am somewhat ignorant on the topic of music.

As long as it doesn't include anti-christian lyrics it should be OK.

You really have to listen to your consience though. There are some songs that I just can't listen to but my sister has no problem with them.
They're very catchy songs, but something about the lyrics makes me uneasy.
My sister doesn't agree, but I would never tell her to stop listening to them.

I don't believe that types of music are a bad thing, just the lyrics within. My cousin, who is the wife of a pastor, only listens to Christian rap. Her favorite artist goes by the name of Lecrae. It's the same message we get in every other genre, just with a different beat!

Regards,
Jenna

What genre of music do you think is bad and you shouldnt listen to it?

Hiphop ? RNB ?
I don't think any style or genre is off-limits. One has to judge by the song, not the instrumentation (or even, dare I say, the artist - not every artist blasted by X and Y groups puts out 100% trash).

Does it make you unpure if you listen to these types of music?
The music you listen to cannot make you unpure. I remember there's a verse that talks about foods which are unclean not making us unclean - that it's essentially us which make ourselves unclean through our sins (which does not include listening to X type of music, providing you don't have convictions against it) and where we've placed our priorities. Listening to a certain type of music isn't like losing one's virginity prematurely.

The thing to remember is to use discernment. Some things are fine, other things aren't.

Ah yes, but it said "a bad thing", not "an evil thing".
Nor is it inherently bad (unless it's country...jk, jk)

If the music hurts your walk then don't listen to it. I personally have no problem listening to very nihilistic music :) Others do...

i listen to Jpop and French music...
i do not know they are about or anything other than the songs sound wonderful.
i also LOVE country. any other secular music, i do not like a whole lot. there are a few artists such as Nickelback, Goo Goo Dolls, ect... that i really like.
Words mean alot in a song- but foreign music has made me really look into the rest of the song since i do not know what they are saying.
i despise songs that swear alot.....

For example.

What genre of music do you think is bad and you shouldnt listen to it?

Hiphop ? RNB ?

Does it make you unpure if you listen to these types of music?
No genre of music does this. A specific song's message or intent could do harm, but another song in the same genre with a good message and good intent can do a lot of good.
