This has recently been debated on a secular forum, but I think it raises some valid points about the Second coming of Christ.

Have a read of the following, and see if it makes any sense to you guys:

> Below Jesus clearly predicts that his Second Coming will be during the
> lifetimes of the First Century Christians who lived in their time.
>
> "Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not
> taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom."
> (Matthew 16:28)
>
> "But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall
> not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God." (Luke 9:27)
>
> Jesus clearly predicted in those two verses above that the apostles
> standing with him would see his second coming in their lifetimes. It's
> clear and simple, nothing allegorical or symbolical.

>
> "But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both
> they that have wives be as though they had none;" (1 Corinthians 7:29)
>
> "For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are
> alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them

This has to be one of the biggest religious money-spinners of all time - yet Jesus Christ did not return to Earth during these times.

Some cults like the Jehovah's Witnesses made claims that the Second coming would be in 1995, whilst others have said that it is going to happen in 2012.

What and who gives them the right to tell the people who are lining their pockets when Christ will return?

At the foot of the CF forums, there is a hyperlink claiming that the Second coming happened recently for people in Asia!

So, who is correct here? Is it the Bible writers, or is it the sceptics who believe that Jesus lied about his second coming? In one Bible verse he says "nobody knows the day or the hour", whilst in another he says that he was going to come soon.

These predictions were made almost 2000 years back, and the world still has not witnessed the second coming.
If it doesn't happen by 2012, I think that this teaching should be scrapped by the churches.

If the second coming does happen, it would be witnessed by the whole world, not a select bunch of people. Every TV and radio station and newspaper will be broadcasting it.

Perhaps in the first two verses Jesus meant that the would not die as in die and go to hell, but have ever lasting life, and be in heaven at time of the rapture when the dead will rise etc. No one knows the time, mebbe it will be tomorrow, mebbe in a thousand years from now.

Interesting, I've thought about this myself.

We know for a fact that Christ was in the Desert being tempted by Satan, that Satan said he would give all of the world, if only Christ worshipped satan.

That was because Satan was tempting Christ, so that he could have the world without dying.

Now a King has a Kingdom right?

So if Christ isn't King, then he doesn't have a kingdom...right?

So the question is, was Christ King when he was born?

Remember Kings don't become kings at their birth, they're anointed after a particular age.

So following this logic, when did Christ get crowned?

At his death and Resurrection. His Death signaled the anointment of his kingship, to lead the charge against the army of death.

His Resurrection was for Christ to come back and say that he has victory over death.

And hence rules as King.

So if Christ is King, his Kingdom came or he came into his Kingdom at the point of his resurrection.

And certainly a lot of people knew Jesus was the Christ and wanted to see the Christ before they passed away.

I wonder if my logic is ok in this explanation tgg.

I certainly don't know the answer to your question tgg. I have often wondered what was meant by the phrase "this generation" in verses such as Matt 24:34. Does it actually mean the human race? I don't know.

tgg is it posible to get a link to the debate that you refer to in the OP?
Thanks
