In short they make life easier for musicians that dont want to bar too much:) and its not a standard for 12 strings

Hope that helps:)

well, thanks for the responce...

umm, I did some more research and found that because of the tension of the added 6 strings, most players down tune a step and capo off the 2nd fret to get themselves in key. Otherwise it will warp the neck...

Depends on the neck or the manufacturer, i have used 12 stringed guitars and i never experienced warpage on the necks(maybe because of the manufacturer's built) yamaha and martin makes good quality 12 stringed instruments that you dont need the capo for because they build the necks that are stable and the workmanship is excellent.

But what you say is true also, increased tension will cause warpage(unless that guitar has a truss rod)

Why do rock guitarists , specifically those not on a professional or even semi-pro level insist on setting their amps as such , gain-10 , bass-10 , mid-0 , high-10 , and prescence/countour-10? That's annoying , and at higher volumes it pierces your ear drums. Why is it that only when people get signed do they learn what tone is?

Its called "maturity". When i was first starting thats what i do when cranking up the amp. As you grow and mature in your music you grow to define tone. Any budding guitarist thinks that louder is better especially in rock. :)

Actually for me rhythm is something different from time. Usually we associate rhythm with time for we measure rhythm in seconds(for example if a quarter note is=80 then it means there are 80 quarter notes in one minute)

But that system was introduced in the invention of the metronome and before they used time as they please.(esp Baroque music and earlier music.)

Maybe in heaven we will have a different system determining rhythm but rhythm will always be there.(i can't imagine dancing without rhythm;))

BTW for me there is no such thing as music without rhythm because music will always have rhythm, music that you think that has no rhythm can be called as free rhythm and usually that is present in indegenous music.

I hope that helped:)

Stravinsky said "Rhythm is the heart beat of music. Stop the heart beat and the music will die"

I agree, time and rhythm are two differnt, but related thing. You can have rythmn without time but you can't have time without rhythm

I have a question about music....why don't they make music like this anymore?

After 40 years of complete frustration and exhaustion with Christian Contemporary Music and "church music", God has been pleased to answer this prayer.

I asked Him if I could hear what His music sounded like when He sang over us:

HEB 2:12 saying, "I will proclaim Your name to My brethren, In the midst of the congregation I will sing Your praise."---Jesus Christ

ZEP 3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

The following music was composed by composers who for the substantial most part represented the Reformed faith. They were strong Christians who were zealous about their faith. They were either Lutheran (Bach, Schultz, and Buxtehude) or Anglican (who embraced the Calvinistic 39 Articles—Handel, Purcell) or other reformed denominations. Their stated purpose was to Glorify Jesus Christ in music!

My Only Comfort: Death, Deliverance, and Discipleship in the Music of Bach by Stapert. This is a book with a Reformational interpretation of the biblical-theological themes that lie at the core of Bach’s work. It compares the similarity of Bach’s Lutheran theology with the Calvinistic Heidelberg Catechism. If you read this book it will help you understand Bach in German until the Lord is pleased to translate the rest of his works into English.

God loves music with a good message, especially the ones about him or coming to him.
I would think he likes all styles as long as they aren't full of sin in the lyrics
and my church uses a guitar and drums and it is like a rock band...

How come it seems to me, acoustic folk, americana type music isn't very popular with a lot of chriistians? I find myself loving folk music--and listening to artists that many here probably aren't even familiar with, such as Guy Clark, Doc Watson, Gillian Welch, Katy Moffatt,--and others, music that's on Dishnetwork's channel 969, Acoustic Crossroads, which is described as the acoustic roots of american music and the singer/ songwriter tradition from a modern perspective. I love natural down to earth music, it just seems to me that a lot of other kinds of music are 'fake' or plastic, too harsh and modern-- for my tastes(I'm not saying it's of the devil or anything like that, just that I seem to like music that makes me think of rustic, natural, earth settings, down to earth, etc). To me, I don't call this country music, country music is just too fake, especially modern country music. Yes, it's 'country' but not the kind of country on the radio or that most people think of country.--Lara
