It shouldn't really though, the Catholic faith has no debt to man, nor is it possible for men to tarnish it. They can tarnish its image, sure, but you should be able to see past that.
I should be proud that a representative of my religion not only attended a rally designed to foster discrimination…but was a speaker in support of that same prejudice and discrimination who then physically attacked a woman who dared to disagree with him?

Priests should just stay in the rectory with the doors locked & never raise their voices, never make a mistake & never think unsavory thoughts.

Must be nice to hold people to an impossible standard so they will always disappoint. It's a shame we aren't all held to a higher standard because we would all be perfect.

I think that most people would be held to the standard of not pushing somebody down because they disagree with you.

My point was that this incident shouldn't make you ashamed of your faith. :)

I did say he was wrong. It's a shame every person who pushes another person doesn't get so much publicity.
He's not "every person," but the leader of a public Catholic group, a position he consciously chose to accept. "Every person" is not in the same position of power as he is, so to compare the two is erroneous.

Oh that's right, he's a priest. He gave up being human & making mistakes. Oh if all of us had to live up to such high standards.
Yawn.

You still don't get it do you? He holds himself up to a higher standard, and from there judges people. That's why it's so gratifying to see people like him fall. When someone pompously puffs themselves up, and then gets their ego taken down a notch, most people would say that that's gratifying.

I don't understand why you're still pushing this point which has already been addressed multiple times in this thread, mwb. This is becoming embarrassing for you.

The only thing that is embarassing is your holier than thou attitude. I've never seen anybody so hell-bent on making Christians look bad. The millions of good people, better than you & I by a mile, are dismissed because of your agenda. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

lol

I've never seen anybody so hell-bent on making Christians look bad.
I'm not the one that pushed someone to the ground, or denounced homosexuals while tweaking with a gay prostitute, or fleeced the public by claiming that my museum was a church. These religious hypocrites are the ones making themselves look bad. Your whining about "being a Christian is so hard!" would probably resonate better with these people, as I'm not feeling empathetic.

The millions of good people, better than you & I by a mile, are dismissed because of your agenda.
Maybe you should reread the thread. The purpose was to illuminate the acts of religious hypocrites, not to smear Christianity

I'll have to agree with Arnold Phillips. And you can't claim that I'm only out to smear Christians, because I AM a Christian. I'm not saying I'm proud of the tiny voice of glee inside me every time a hypocrite gets taken down, because it's not a very Christ-like attitude and I struggle against it. But all the same, I HATE it when people like this spread hatred, bigotry, and discrimination, all in the name of the God I worship. So yes, I have to admit, it IS nice sometimes to see such people get their comeuppance.

Actually, after thinking about it, I might even consider that the priest was justified in his actions.

When you see protests on the news, the protestors seem to invite the retailiation they receive. For example, many protestors attack the police who are there to maintain order then cry assault when the police try to defend themselves.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this woman or people saw a priest there & used the situation to further their cause. Even better if they chose an old woman, or a woman who's 9 1/2 months pregnant or a child to go after this priest, then cry foul when the priest tries to defend himself. They don't go after the 250 pound bodybuilder. That would take guts.

Isn't that the liberal M.O.? When you can't win the war, you pick a battle or two to create a diversion.

You're completely making things up now. There is absolutely nothing in the article that implies any of what you're saying here. You're really reaching, aren't you? Any excuse to go off on a riff against some imaginary "liberal M.O."

denied pushing
---
he grabbed her by the shoulders with both hands and pushed her backward
he had a portfolio in his left hand
---
"I promise you, I did not throw her to the ground."

I find it horrible that this woman would go as far as lieing about her falling to smear the "opposition". We should all be decrying publicing making false statements about someone just because they don't agree with you.

I'm going to take his side until anything more comes out.

I guess Catholics aren't allowed to have emotions and make poor decisions either.

No wonder people don't want to be Christians anymore. You can do anything you want & never be held accountable.

Of course Catholics are allowed to have emotions and make poor decisions. And then, like everyone else, they suffer the consequences.

The consequences in this case will probably be an assault and battery charge.

There is no indication anyone was attacked other than the woman who was pushed down. It doesn't matter how obnoxious she was or how irritating. This man should have been the bigger person and not resorted to violence. Now, hopefully, he will pay some conequences for his actions. That's what personal responsibility is all about.
