I do not believe that this is discrimination.
Why would you…or anyone for that matter…pretend it is not?

Would you support legislation that denied equal access to Christians? Or to non-whites? Or to the handicapped?

It seems that you are saying discrimination is somehow not discrimination when it is occurring against minorities you don’t personally like.

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the Gypsies and the Negros
and I didn't speak up because I was white
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

We people of faith love our Nigerian brothers and sisters. What they do affects God's blessings upon Nigeria.

When they ban immorality, God is pleased and blesses them. That is a wonderful lesson for us.

God wants Christians to discriminate against evil.
Homosexuals in Nigeria are evil?

Are homosexuals in the United States evil too?

I do! Let the discrimination continue in our lives, our churches, and our hearts before God.

Wisdom is to love God and to hate evil. Love the sinner and hate the sin. God set the example.
By hating our fellow man…this is a good example?

So you are okay and even pleased with Nigeria if they make being gay a crime, if they forbid homosexuals to gather together or meet in public? You're okay with such an obviously horrendous violation of human rights??

You're free to discriminate all you want in your life, your church, and your heart before God. But when you try to write that discrimination into the Constitution and into the laws of this land, you better believe that you're going to have a lot of people fighting tooth and nail against you to preserve the liberty of our fellow citizens.

How can you call this a "wonderful lesson?"

If God is all about "teaching lessons" to nations who do not do his will, the US would be utterly destroyed by now - because we have the means to completely wipe out hunger and poverty - but we lack the will.

When will OUR wonderful lesson be coming?

Jesus certainly would not stand up for gay marriage. The Bible and Christian tradition clearly states that homosexual acts are sinful.
If it were that clear there would be no debate.

The message is FAR from clear.

One can discriminate against a person without hating him. Discrimination is even practiced by businesses like movie theatres. Ever heard of price discrimination? Ever noticed how movie theatres seem to charge less for people that go to matinees than for people who watch their movies at night or on the weekends? Is there hate involved when companies practice price discrimination?
That is not discrimination. That makes economic sense in a capitalist society. More people attend movies in the evening, thus a higher price per person. In the afternoons, they must keep the price lower to attract viewers.:)
It IS discrimination. I've taken an Economics course in college, and this business practice is called price discrimination.

Go to Dictionary.com, and look up "price discrimination".

This Forum compares homosexuality to murder on a daily basis.

What's your beef?
Sorry, but I don't read every thread on this forum. Also, we are talking about discrimination vs. killing, NOT homosexuality vs. murder.

I personally find the idea that its ok to put restrictions like this in place to be shameful at best. I would be absolutely humiliated to be a Nigerian citizen right now.

When they first tried to pass a Constitutional amendment to ban gay marraige, I sat down and cried. I litterally sat down and cried. I felt sad and ashamed to live in a country where people, especially law makers, felt that it was ok to deny people the right to be happy. It just blew my mind and it still does. I feel bad for a gay couple that wants nothing more than to get married and get old together. Who arent doing anything that there needs to be a law against.

It is not about denying people's happiness; it is about preventing an act of wrongdoing.

I too have taken economics, and so called "price discrimination" is an integral part of economics. Take it up with capitalists! So, next?:)

Wow, cool. Lucky for you, you live in a country that respects civil rights and you will never have to walk in a gay Nigerian's shoes.

Enjoy your privileges, you've earned them.

Right?

Some good those laws are doing then. Gays have been getting married for a while, though it's just not recognized by the law. Before god (even your god) and friends and family, gay people are wedded by a religious officiator of their choice and they can have a wedding just like anyone else. It's just a big party, and there's no laws against peaceful celebrations.

The laws don't prevent anything but government recognition. This is where your discriminatory views are most clear. You want a relationship that has no impact on you to be barred from government recognition; you don't want them to be equal. You don't want the blacks to come into your private country club.

They ARE doing something that there needs to be a law against.
Which is what? Pair bonding? Finding someone you want to spend your life with? There should be laws against this?

Which goes to show that discrimination is not necessarily wrong and does not have to include hatred.

If I was gay, I never would want to get married to a man, because of the fact that it is wrong.

Hatred is perhaps too strong a word. Bigotry is not as strong and seems an accurate way to describe the human condition associated with unwarranted discrimination against others.

Also, price discrimination is not even REMOTELY similar to an outright ban on something. Price discrimination theory would state that gay couples would be charged more for a marriage license since they would be willing to pay more for it since it is, to them, a new privelege. Here's a linky on it.

What you are talking about is an outright ban on certain customers being sold to at any price. In this way, it is not like price discrimination so much as it is like having a "No Colored" sign in the window or a "NINA" sign.
