Sometimes Priest don't reply right away as they want to make sure that you are really interested. I suggest calling back every two or three days as needed.

Attending a service is your next step. You can not know about our faith until you are involved in our services.

Just wanted to jump in and add my welcome. I am also in Georgia...DAWG country!

We had a man converting from a Baptist background coming to our parish (before he transferred to a master program in another state) and he said that he couldn't remember a time in his life that he didn't love Jesus but that it was only in Orthodox worship that he knew he was truly worshipping Him. It may not hit you the first time...it may not the second time either...but at some point the perception of heavenly worship on earth will become almost tangible.

The problem is that the only number for a church I can find is the Holy Transfiguration and the recorded message said that the service times were changing and it did not say what they were changing to. I kinda need to know what time to show up for lol.

Edit: Just recieved an email from Father Peter and they are having services on 12/9 at 7pm and DL on Sunday at 12/10 at 9:30. I'm hoping to talk to him on the phone tonight.

Forgive me if this seems as spam or unnecessary to the rest of you but I feel like jumping up from my desk at work from happiness. Just reading these responses, watching the DL from Constantinople on the Catholic cable station and reading more about the faith has me more excited in Christ than I have been in some time.

I think more than a few of us have known this type of joy, before. Looks like all the different pieces are beginning to fall into place for you, and it certainly sounds like you are on your way home! Please keep us posted, and God bless you on your journey.

Amazing isn't it? What was your impression of the chanting? I find it to be complex, warm, deep and exotic like a really good cup of coffee that you can swim around in.
Have you heard Agni Parthene yet?

HERE is a link to the oldest Christian hymn - Phos Hilaron - O Gladsome Light

HERE is the joyous hymn we sing on Pascha (easter)

Last night a sub-deacon came down to lead our Wednesday night service and we prayed reader's Vespers. He has a beautiful voice and did a lot of chanting. We had a first time inquirer who had read the newspaper article and contacted Orthodoxyusa via our website.

She stood there with her head down and her eyes closed with such a look of reverence and joy during the service. It is such a joy to see people discovering the life-changing depth and beauty of Orthodoxy.

Just an update: I spent almost an hour talking to Father Peter and he has me so excited about the Orthodox faith. The next services will be on the 16h and 17th and while its just a mission I can't wait to attend and take part. I was sadly informed that the Greek Orthodox church here in town is pretty much closed to outsiders and that even Father Peter is asked why he came when he's served there.

Not a good situation to me and since the service is primarily in Greek I'm left with the feeling it is not for me. I could be wrong but for now I'm going to check out the OCA mission and go from there. He expalined several of my questions about articles of faith very well. I felt blessesd talking to him.

You guys have been so great in answering my questions and encouraging my interest. I can't thank you all enough.

I remember talking to Father Mark for the first time on the phone, so I definitely understand where you're coming from when you say how much of a blessing it is.

Christ is in our midst!

"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls." :)

You know who I am there Sothron. :)

I'm supportive with whatever choice that you make. But remember....let the Lord Jesus Christ lead you in these choices. It doesn't matter what church or denomination we attend or belong to. Its about believing and trusting in our Lord Jesus Christ. Its about what Christ did on that cross for you and me. Its about the power of His blood and the cleansing that it gives us. Gods love and grace is not contained to a belief of a group of people. His love is loud!!! God bless you my brother. Glad to see you signed up here. God chooses to use us all in different ways and if He wants you to be used in the Orthodox way than how can you argue. :)
Just remember though.....tradition is good as long as you don't put tradition over the greatest commandment of all. Love.

The Orthodox Church practices Christ's love in a way and an intensity that I've never encountered any other place. Christ's love is preached and taught every Sunday, but especially on Forgiveness Sunday. We call God "the lover of mankind". Christ's love is part of tradition.
