Beloved in Messiah:

On behalf of the executive team I want to make the following announcement in regards to the Married Icon and status.

We have read all of your suggestions and debates with a great deal of care. Certainly this is a very passionate subject and everyone seems to have pretty strong opinions about it. I want to thank you all for the level of decorum and brotherhood you have shown.

We too have had some lively debate and after which we have come up with this as a final ruling.

1. In regards to the Married couples area on CF:

Married Area - Available for those who are married, which is defined as a legal union between one man and one woman.

2. In regards to the selection describing one's relationship.
Users will have to make a choice when they first sign up for membership on CF. The choices will be:

Single
In Relationship
Married (Defined as a legal union between one man and one woman)
Private

3. Only people selecting the Married option will be able to have the wedding ring icon.

4. Only Senior Support Staff will be able to change the members' selection in this area similar to how denomination icons are changed now. Anyone may request to have their icon changed from Married to any of the other options without question from us.

We are instructing the staff that if an individual is carrying the married icon and does not fit the description which has been set forth that the ONLY thing that is to happen is that the status is to be changed. This is to be retroactive where applicable. There are to be no witch hunts.

We realize that many of you would have preferred a much more conservative approach to this issue. We also realize that many of you would have preferred a much more liberal view. We have tried very hard to balance the both sides to be as fair as possible to all with out diluting the G-d ordained definition of marriage as being between man and woman.

As with any election where the issues are heated it can sometimes be difficult for us to put away our heated feelings and move forward. But that is what we as a community must do at this time. Please prayerfully let us move forward in Christian harmony.

B'shem Y'shua HaMoshiach, Sar Shalom. Shalom

In the name of Jesus the Messiah, Prince of Peace. Peace

I never filled in the marital status option when it popped up a year or so ago, does that mean I can't post in the married section?

Also, I tried to fix my amount and gender of children (it says I have a boy and a girl) but the program wouldn't allow me.

If I choose 'in a relationship' would I be allowed to fix the children option?

Let me start out with the first clarifying questions. I am sure I know what some of the answers will be, but there has been confusion.

"A legal union between one man and one woman."

Does this include:

1. Civil marriages (marriage certificate, no religious ceremony)? There have been some that have understood some of Erwin's statements to mean that a legal, but non-religious ceremony does not count as "married" for CF purposes.

2. Common-law marriages, in some US States and countries like Canada where these are considered legal marriages?

3. People in more than one legal marriage, simultaneously? For example, someone from a country where polygamy is legal, who has 2 marriages?

How is the staff going to determine this, unless the individual offers it up freely, short of a witch hunt? I ask because of 2 recent examples. In one example, false information was circulating regarding a person's marriage. In another example, an unverified assumption was circulating regarding a person's marriage. In both cases, the people involved had staff tell them they were not married validly. Were these actions consistent with the new policy?

And finally...you are going to be in a position to congratulate all the people who get married when posting to CF seeing as you are going to have to change all their icons! It seems like a good opportunity to do something nice for the newlyweds, only I'm not sure what that would be...

I think there's a bug in the Children icon that exists completely independently of the marriage icon.

It says this when I try to change it to 3 daughters

A required field called Marital Status is missing or has an invalid value.

That must be because marital status is required in general; when you try to make any change to your profile it won't let you unless you pick a marital status. Like those annoying order forms that won't let you put the order through unless you've filled in your phone number required field...

And as far as I know if you put in 3 daughters it will say you have 3 sons as well unless Erwin's fixed it by now.

'ej QaQ - Heghlu'meH QaQ jajvam!

Yes unless you choose the married option you will not be able to post in that section. As for the childrent thing this is a brand new feature and from what I can see possibly a bit buggy (that is a not technical answer) Please give Erwin a bit of time to iron out the insects contained within. I am going to be making a suggestion that this item be one that can be hidden or not used at all by a user.

Yes if it is recognized by the juristiction where you live then yes

2. Common-law marriages, in some US States and countries like Canada where these are considered legal marriages?
I think that if the state would allow you to file your taxes as a married couple then the answer would be yes
3. People in more than one legal marriage, simultaneously? For example, someone from a country where polygamy is legal, who has 2 marriages?
No as you would be married to more than one man or one woman

There will be NO witch hunts. The more difficult cases where the public information seems to be ambiguous the Exec will look at themselves. I would have no doubt that you would personally be involved as Ombudsman if there was serious contention.

And finally...you are going to be in a position to congratulate all the people who get married when posting to CF seeing as you are going to have to change all their icons! It seems like a good opportunity to do something nice for the newlyweds, only I'm not sure what that would be...
No there will be no recognition given on any official level <Edited because some did not understand that the orrignal answer was sarcasim>

Mine says long distance relationship now. Will it automatically change to "in a relationship" now that LDR is not an option?
You may have to have that changed for you. If it is not set correctly see any staff member and they can assist you

You are going to baffle a lot of people if you say best wishes in Klingon ^_^
Yes as I beleive that "good day" in Klingonese - DaH HIHoH
is literaly translated "Kill me now"

If I were able to ask Rodney Dangerfield he would likely as not tell me that was a suitable greeting for many who are married
