While he was saying this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, ‘Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you!’ 28But he said, ‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!’

‘Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it!’

Did Mary hear the word of God and obey it? :)

Luke 1:38 And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word.

So should we call her blessed?

Luke 1:48 Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

:thumbsup:

Here's some more. Elizabeth filled with the Holy Spirit, said this:

Luke 1:41 And it came to pass, that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the infant leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: 42 And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb. 43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished that were spoken to thee by the Lord.

I consiter her blessed AMONG women NOTabove women!

I'm not sure what you're getting at. Are you inferring we believe Mary is more than human? We don't--she is a creature, a human being, not a goddess or anything like that. :thumbsup:

But, she has been specially graced by God:

Luke 1:28 And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

Luke 1:46 And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord. 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. 48 Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. 49 Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name.

That can't believe that...that would require that they deny several passages stating that "there is not a righteious man on earth who always does what is right and never sins" ecclesiastes 7:10

They would have to say that mary was God to say she never sinned, and to say she was God, would mean saying that jesus was not full God and full man, leading them to a heresy that they condemned in the early church (monarchianism I believe).

I just find it strange that anyone would say that publically to a grown-up man and not feel like the world's biggest fool...

Does anyone else find that disturbing? :o

From that perspective which I've never considered that is quite weird.

No.

Do you mean to imply it says we shouldn't pray to Mary? By the logic used to arrive at that conclusion, it would mean its OK to pray to those who hear God's word and obey it.

Congratulations on destroying prayer to Mary while simulatenously establishing prayer to the Saints. Although as pointed out earlier, Mary did hear and obey the words of God. Thus she could be prayed to as a Saint. So you haven't destroyed prayer to Mary afterall.

Perhaps the verse isn't about who you should pray to?

The Bible also says that there is one mediator between God and man and that is the person of Jesus Christ. It isn't Mary that we should be praying to.
Jesus wasn't talking about prayers in this passage anyway. He was saying who is truly blessed. It is the person who not only hears God's Word, but does it.

Here you decide. Exegeted.......

{Arrogant believer - Rude and Mixed up on doctrine}
27~~And it came to pass
while He {Jesus} was teaching these things,
a certain woman from the audience,
having interrupted with a loud voice,
said unto Him,
"Happy is the womb that carried you!
Happy are the breasts that gave You food."

{Note: This woman is trying to belittle Jesus by shrinking him down to the status of a baby dependent upon its mother for everything. And, she is not even correct about happiness in a womb because the woman having children is part of the curse of Eve for her sin.}

28~~But He . . . Himself . . . replied,
"On the contrary {WRONG!},
happinesses to those who keep hearing the Word of God
and retain/guard it."

{Note: Retain here is the same use of guard in the sense of a 'retainer' placed on your teeth to keep them in place. The 3 R's of Grace Apparatus for Perception:

1) Reception - you must concentrate on doctrine taught for it to be RECEIVED. This is the gnosis stage. It is heard but not accepted as truth. When accepted as truth, it becomes epignosis.

2) Retention - When you are positive at the hearing of the Word, it is transferred to your soul and becomes epignosis where it is useable. Remember only a small percentage of what you hear will actually be retained. So, you must be consistent in your hearing, and the pastor-teacher must be consistent in his repetition.

3) Recall - This is applying doctrine to your daily life experiences. In James 'faith without works is dead'. The 'works' to which James is referring is 'recalling and applying doctrine as the need arises - under the influence and guidance of the Filling of the Holy Spirit'.}

Sometimes, arguments lead where you don't want them to.

But OK,could you please explain to me how you arrived at the conclusion "we should not pray to Mary" from that verse?

<points to faith icon> I was taking your argument to its conclusion, not arguing my own.

We do have one mediator, but not only one intercessor...do you not ask others to pray for you?
