Yes, profiling is wrong. I find it disgusting that people profile other people as well. This is racism and needs to be outlawed. I thought we were past the days of civil rights for people of other colors.

What if we went back to the pre-Martin-Luther-King days? Problem solved. We could ahve the caucasian plane, the blackplane, the bearded plane, the English plane, the funny-languages plane, etc.
Didn't Survivor try that? I don't watch the show, but I heard on the radio it didn't last very long.

The reactions here are as if the airline or the govt. did this. These were three other passengers. So they were stupid. It looks like it was handled correctly. You can't stop people from having their own prejudices.
This is racism and needs to be outlawed. I thought we were past the days of civil rights for people of other colors.
No, it doesn't. As far as I know, I'm still allowed to think and feel any way I want. If I want to be racist, it's still my right.

I never said that they should outlaw your thoughts or your being a racist. What they should outlaw is racial profiling. However, racisim is wrong.

Catechism of the Catholic Church said:
1935 The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it:

Every form of social or cultural discrimination in fundamental personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language, or religion must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God's design.

With so much terrorism around the globe and the knowlege that the terrorist Islamists have PUBLICLY stated that they want to "wipe all non-Islamists off the face of the earth",I fear some paranoia is to be expected. It isn't something one can just wish away.

35-year-old law professor Pablo Gutierrez Vega said he was humiliated when three German passengers on an Air Berlin flight approached him during a layover in Palma de Mallorca on Aug. 30 en route from Seville, Spain, to Dortmund, Germany. The passengers asked the professor if they could search his carry-on luggage.

First of all, this was perpetrated by 3 passengers. Not the whole plane load. The Captain and the crew did not do this.

I think people have to take this story with a grain of salt... it does not tell the whole story. Were the passengers drinking? Were they racist? How did the other passengers react?

It's an inflammatory story to sell papers and garner attention.

However, do note the following comment from the Spanish Factor of the airline.

"..
Air Berlin's managing director for Spain and Portugal, Alvaro Middelmann told the AP his airline was partially responsible for the disturbance.

"I acknowledged that we contributed to this man going through something very unpleasant." ..."

So NOT entirely the passengers' fault, eh?

Seriously now, They acknowledged that something unpleasent happened while this guy was on the plane they fly. If some one throws up on your shoe while you are on a plane does that make it the airlines fault? No, but it does make your trip unpleasant. They even offered to kick the idiots off the plane and abandon them enroute. The airline DID NOT INSTIGATE this event, it is not thier airlines policy to harass passengers ALREADY on the plane... if they did not want him on the plane they would have removed him in the screening process before he even got on.

On the runway, the pilot apologized for the incident and said he was willing to expel the passengers who confronted him and continue the flight with Gutierrez Vega on board.

Is it? Realy?

To all those who are against profiling... If you took your young daughter to her first day at Kindergarden, and found a male teacher... What would be your first thought?

It's human nature to profile. However, to kick someone out of a plane for fear of a terrorist attack... More evidence the terrorists have won.

Wake up and smell the reality. People are scared and simply don't care about being branded racist. Also, this happened in Madrid Spain not the U.S. so any "civil rights" don't mean much...

Personally I will avoid groups of arab looking people very much support racial profiling...

There's not a person posting in this thread whois so against this who would not have been a nervous wreck on that very same airplane.

That is false. To use such a blanket statement is to read the mind of every person here. I do agree that many of us who are completely outraged may have acted similarly in the same situation, but I do digress that everyone would have.
