A. Because this is one of the few places where homosexuality can be discussed, so the stories and conversations tend to get concentrated here.

B. Because people are completely obsessed with policing other people's lives.

after a while, it seems like the topics are the same with a different title or twist and the pros and cons of the agruments are word for word of the last 20 threads on the gay "issue". just about every comment that can be made I think has. But wait a day or so and another thread will pop up about is homosexuality ok or sinful or morally wrong or cool or.....

then the same views and opinions are made again as in the last thread on it (after a while you can almost quote some people verbatim even before they reply).

one wonders about how some can project or suggest homosexuality is more "evil" or a greater "sin" than any other like lying, drunkenes, fornicating, adultery, etc.

maybe a poll on that would be interesting?

It's usually the same people who post the treads on gay people too. Perhaps some people "doth protest too much"?

When I was in denial I was pretty obsessed with gay threads, particularly condemning gays and posting about how reparative therapy can work (because I wanted to believe so hard that you could "cure" homosexuality). This is why I'm suspicious of certain people who post these threads.

Why does everyone here talk about Gay people? There is so much more to talk about. I personally have nothing against gay people, its none of my bussiness what they do

So - talk about something else. ... another thread talking about why do people talk about something so much is just the same as another thread about that topic.

ok.. well i was just wondering. I just signed up and all I see is gay threads. Whats wrong with gay people anyway?

Depending on who you ask, absolutely nothing, demonic possession, thorns in our sides, or hedonistic pedophilia. Take your pick.

Well, there are three sides represented here:

The first is composed of Christians that believe that homosexuality is a sin.

The second is composed of Christians that believe that homosexuality is not a sin, or if they do, that the salvation provided by Christ encompasses those that may live a life of sin. (There's a lot more to this position, but it's so complicated that I'm not going to talk about it here.

Then there's the rest of us.

I'm a gay man, and I live in a predominantly Christian culture. Thus, these arguments about homosexuality aren't just hypothetical to me, they actually affect my life. I'm here because watching and participating in this board lets me understand the positions of others.

A side effect of coming here is that I've met some very interesting and brilliant people, and even though I wouldn't recognize more than two or three face to face, I count them among my friends.

I believe the reason homosexuality is so heavily debated is simple: it is one of the few topics that a Christian can still be incredibly declarative about for the precise reason that it will have absolutely no direct impact on thier lives.

LGBT people will never be in the majority, and at least for the near future, never in enough positions of power in the prodominately white, male, christian power structure of the US to make it so that acceptance of gays and lesbians with equal validity as Christian is never in question (For instance the common arguement that Gay can change if they want - from people haven't ever felt same sex attraction, or that gay men or pedophiles is one that is spoken even my congressmen and senators; how long would a politician last if they went on record saying that people only become Christian, not because of God but so they can have sex with children?)

Most other topics of "morality" - like for instance the 10 commandments, the 7 things the Lord hates from Prov 6 aren't much of a topic here - not because they don't happen, but becuase they happen all the time. Where would consumerism be without a bit of "coveting"? Or politics be without lying? And we aren't going to go into heterosexual sexual desires and the way those are played out - see, it's all too close to home. If however you chose something to condemn which affects people you don't know (let's call them "sodomites" because no one has used that term for the last 60 years for example), doing an action that you have no interest in (indeed a trained response to hate instead), then you are free to unleash your big vat of bile.

Why there are groups in every state, in every town likely, christian based, to stop the "gay agenda" is a bit of a bafflement. I guess these people have already figured out everything they need to know about love, hope and charity and moved on to paranoia, cold-heartedness and passing judgement. Of course most members will still have an Elton John collection at home.

The type of attacks on gays were replicated a generation or two ago against hippies, free love, parents who didn't spank (back when a majority of parents did), interracial marriages (that was big! And illegal until the 60's in some states) and for those who had grown up tea drinkers, evil drinkers. Nothing is easier than attacking the "other" - whoever that might be.

I hope that illuminated.
