Is it legitimate worship music?
does everything you listen to have to be worship music? I learn a lot from listening to Bob Dylan. I enjoy differing views, especially outside of christianity. Much of those views are only found in metal/death metal/hardcore/punk/hardcore music scenes and sub-cultures. To be a christian, does it mean throwing away the nirvana, pearl jam, and the footballs? You like what you like for a reason. My personal study, in which for the past nearly 3yrs i've only listened to Christian music, and much to my own destruction, and trouble of intellect. Be you to the core, Jesus saved YOU, and i know for me, i can love people in a very new way, a very different way, not out of any fear of displeasing God, but from my own will do i love others. That's very foundational in a sense to me.

As far as I am concerned, you should listen to what makes you happy. If that be worship music so be it, but I will tell you... on my car stereo, I have a Christian station, a hip hop station, a country station, and a mix station.

I feel that the Lord gives people the talent to make music, which makes people happy. As long as it doesnt take your focus off of God, and doesnt influence the way you live your life for Him, there should be no issue listening to what you want.

Again all of this is IMO. :)

It is legittimate as far as you understand that music in NOT a true worship.
The true worship is only Eucharist.

Music can be helpfull to place you in a mood so it is easier to pray, but the music, or the feelings, are not the prayer.
Which music is the best for that? Any music that let you mind free to concentrate, and do not overwhelm you

I sing many kinds of music, but I will only sing songs who's words I either pray to God or use tp declare to others the glory of God. (much like the the angel did on Isaiah 6:3)

How is prayer and declaring the glory of God not worship?

There are different meaning of the word 'worship'.

For us worship, prayer, christian life are different (but related) thinks.

The Only Worship is the One made by Christ on the Cross: we can join to this Worship, toghether with all angels and saints, by the Eucharist that is the True Sacrifice of the Cross.
That is the strict meaning of worship for us: a very clear and detailed meaning.
In a larger meaning, worship is the the communitary prayer to adore and glorify God, that anyway is related to the Eucharist.

On the other side there is the private prayer, meditative or contemplative, single or in community (hours). That is extremly important, it is the base of out christian live. We do not call it worship.

Nor we call worship the acts and feelings of our live, when they are towards the Lord.

All above three points are necessay and interconnected, and are present (more or less) in each christian church.

Music can be a help, but is not nor worship, not prayer, not christian life

I think worship music should be about worshiping Jesus or not be called worship music. Too much passes for worship in churches that belongs in more secular settings.
Not that there aren't great spiritually related music everywhere but praise and worship should be just that. Give the best to the Lord!

As worship music, I’d say no because most of the time the focus seems to be in the wrong place.

As forms of entertainment I don’t see anything wrong with it other than how bad it sounds.

1 Chronicles 15:16
David told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their brothers as singers to sing joyful songs, accompanied by musical instruments: lyres, harps and cymbals.

1 Chronicles 23:5
Four thousand are to be gatekeepers and four thousand are to praise the LORD with the musical instruments I have provided for that purpose."

2 Chronicles 5:13
The trumpeters and singers joined in unison, as with one voice, to give praise and thanks to the LORD. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and other instruments, they raised their voices in praise to the LORD and sang: "He is good; his love endures forever." Then the temple of the LORD was filled with a cloud,

2 Chronicles 7:6
The priests took their positions, as did the Levites with the LORD's musical instruments, which King David had made for praising the LORD and which were used when he gave thanks, saying, "His love endures forever." Opposite the Levites, the priests blew their trumpets, and all the Israelites were standing.

2 Chronicles 34:12
The men did the work faithfully. Over them to direct them were Jahath and Obadiah, Levites descended from Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, descended from Kohath. The Levites—all who were skilled in playing musical instruments-

On of my favorites songs is Handel's Messiah Across the span of 250+ years, Messiah still holds its extraordinary grip on musician and audience member alike. During the time of Handel, expensive instruments and equipments were used.

The bottom line: We are to Glorify God with songs and music. Ephesians 5:19 "Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord"

Personally, I don't care to sing Rap and Hip-Hop in worship services. I believe there is "NO" wrong way of singing types of music/songs since worship is spiritual from the heart. That's between God and the believer who are worshipping. There are different preferences of worship. Some prefer one worship style while other prefer another worship style. Christians sometimes follow their conscience on their worship preferences.

(John 4:23-24) But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
(Joh 4:24) God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

1. Song Music is composed of Harmony, Melody and Words.
2. IF it does not fit "John 4:23-34" THEN it cannot be considered Biblical Worship Music!

Perhaps may I give you an exmaple of a Christian Son = whose theology about God is all wrong? It is a very popular song and can be found in almost every church, and yet it TELLS A LIE ABOUT GOD!

FIRST I will show you about what GOD says about Himself and then tell you the Song!

(Isa 45:18) For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

(Isa 46:9) Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me,

Now the song, "Our God is an Awsome God!" The title says that God is an awsome god among other gods. The song is WRONG!

OUR GOD = IS THE ONLY GOD! This Treachery is brought about by those that are TOTALLY IGNORANT OF WHO GOD IS!

Thanks, Roger459

Satan.... uses warfare music to drive home his lies, his message of destruction. He knows the power in music. When people say that rock music is of the devil, they are partly correct. Used in conjunction with the evil intent of his words and spirit, it is evil.
The same warfare sound used in conjunction with the Word of God and a clean spirit is scriptural.....
Point to remember: Because satan uses something, doesn’t mean we can’t. Should we cease to pray and talk to God because pagans pray and talk to their gods? Warfare music is scriptural and satan has perverted it. This does not negate us from using it in its pure form.

It's fine to listen to, can even be edifying, but has no place in the Liturgy.

"You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Melethiel again."

Concerning worship, I guess it depends on what tradition you want to follow, the traditions of the world, or the traditions of the Church.

Hip Hop in worship is apostacy.
