Done with classes for the summer?
Nah. My classes are year-round. I just miss you guys. I decided I need to commit at least a few minutes a week to see what's going on around here.

By the way, where have you been on IM? Haven't seen you in weeks.

Will you be keeping up with your blog as well?
I'm not too sure about that, yet. School has been killing me lately. I've had three classes for the past seven weeks and will have three classes again starting Monday until the end of the year. The classes I take are accelerated, so this is basically the same as taking four or five full classes in a semester. On top of that, I work fulltime.

And to be perfectly honest, I got a little burnt out constantly studying for school and for the blog and whatnot. I haven't picked up a theology book in three months or so. I think I'm ready to get back in the swing, though. But I'm not sure where to pick up where I left off. I was talking to Brian about maybe going through Ecclesiastes, but I don't think I'm going to do that anymore.

I still want to do something about the logical possibility of validly inferring something from the Bible and perhaps demonstrating the self-referential coherency of Scripturalism, if indeed it is self-referentially coherent. One of the key problems that Scripturalism has, and something that Clark either overlooked or outright failed to address, is how language can have any meaning at all. He doesn't show this (and certainly not from the Bible), but simply assumes it. The closest he gets to proving that language has meaning is that he asserts its a gift from God to men so that they can communicate. This seems convincing enough to the Christian, but does the Bible really say this? That's where my focus had been and I think I'd like to return to that. I still have a stack of books here on logic and there are a number on the validity of interpretation that I want to pick up. The problem of translation is one that no one has yet to take up, either. That is, how do we know that what we teach as Koine Greek today is actually what was written in the biblical texts? Perhaps we are wrong about the meaning of the words altogether.

There are ways of completely avoiding these questions, but doing so comes across as very disingenuous and evasive. Even more, it doesn't help when debating the meaning of the Scripture with other believers (nominal or not). Eventually, though, you get wrapped up the science, which brings with it innumerable problems. It's probably a quagmire from which none can emerge, so my difficulty lies in discerning where the line is drawn, if at all.

Maybe I should just give up on all that and just devote all my time to reformed theology rather than reformed philosophy.

Alright.
I haven't been on im much this summer because I was working full time and when I got home I just usually crashed watching tv or whent and did stuff with friends. Once school rolls around again I'll probably get back on.

So glad to see you here today Jon. I've been missing your posts and have also been a tad worried about you. I know from observing and talking to my daughter how time consuming college is - I also know you need to take some time for yourself!

All that to say - welcome back:wave:
