Did God set this up?

Did you know that from the time of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to
the time of Jesus was approximately 2000yrs?
Did you know that from the time of Jesus until present times,
is approximately 2000yrs?

What I will attempt to do is to compare the 2000yrs of the
Jewish history (from the time of Jacob), with the 2000yrs of
Christian history (from the time of Jesus), and see what
emerges.

Jacob - 12 sons - 70 members of his family.
The Isrealites....
Expressed their faith in God by....
Observing the Sabbath,
By the right of cicumcision,
And by making offerings. (Animal Sacrifices).
The Isrealites suffered for 400 yrs under Egyptians.
At the end of this 400yrs, Moses gave 'laws' to the Isrealites,
on which the Jewish foundation was based.
Then began a period of approximately 400yrs, when the
Isrealites were ruled by Judges. In this 400yr period of
Judges, the social system was a system of feudalism, and the
Judges played the role of, Prophet, Priest and King.
At the end of the period of Judges, the people were crying out
for a King. It was at this point that the Prophet Samuel
anointed the first King of Isreal, Saul.
Thus began a period of 'The United Kingdom of Isreal', which
lasted for 120yrs.
Due to Solomons failure, the Kingdom was divided into North
(Isreal), and South (Judah), thus beginning a 400yr period of
the divided Kingdoms of Isreal.
At the end of this 400yr period, the Babylonians captured and
exiled Jewish leaders within Babylon. This period of Jewish
exile lasted for 210yrs, before their return to Jerusalem.
From this point on, the Jewish people entered a final period of
400yrs in preparation for the coming of the Messiah.
Thus began the great reformation movement within Judeism. Of
who the most noted reformer was the prophet Malachi, who urged
the people to go back to the laws of Moses.

------------------------------

Jesus - 12 Apostels - 70 Disciples
The Christians....
Expressed their faith in God by....
Observing the Sabbath.
By the right of Baptisim,
And by their offerings. (not animal sacrifices, but Martyrs).
The Christians suffered for 400 yrs under the Romans.
At the end of the 400yrs, St Augustine gave the book 'The City
of God' on which the Christian foundation was based.
Then began a period of approximately 400yrs, when the
Christians were ruled by Church Patriarchs. In this 400yr
period of Church Patriarchs, the social system was a system of
feudalism, and the Church Patriarchs played the role of,
Prophet, Priest and to some extent King. It was at this point
that the Pope, (Pope Leo III) anointed the first Emperor of
Christianity, Charlemagne.
Thus began a period of 'The United Kingdom of Christianity',
which lasted for 120yrs.
Due to Charlemagne's grandsons arguing among themselves, the
Kingdom was divided into East and West. (East
Franks; 'Germany', and West Franks; 'France'). Thus beginning
a 400yr period of the divided Kingdom of Christianity.
At the end of this 400yr period, the King of France captured
and exiled The Pope (Clement V) to Avignon in Southern France.
This period of Papel exile lasted for 210yrs, before the return
of a single Pope to Rome.
From this point on, the Christian people have entered a final
period of 400yrs in preparation for the 2nd coming of the
Messiah.
Then began a great reformation movement within Christianity. Of
who the most noted reformer was Martin Luther (1517), who urged
the church to go back to the original ways of St Augustine and
his 'City of God'.

According to the Jewish calendar, dated from the time of the Exodus, this is the year 5762. The Exodus was 400 years after the sons of Israel began their sojourn in Egypt. Add approximately 100 years prior to that and the period from Abraham to Christ is somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,700 years.

Did God set it up? Of course He did, the Old Testament is filled with shaddows and types. Look at how  angry God got at Moses for hitting the rock twice instead of just once. But God is not a legalist. Ezekiel was instructed to cook his dinner using human dung, and he protested. So God allowed him to use cow dung in the place of. But he still recorded in the Bible what the proper symbol and type was.

We are not required to perform the animal sacrifices and keep the temple observations that were given through Moses. There is not even a temple to observe them in. But we should be prepared to explain their meaning to people. We should be able to explain to people how Jesus is the sacrifical lamb.

I don't understand how a Christian martyr is equivalent to the animal sacrifices of the Jews.

And while St Augustine's works are valuable to the history of the Church, the Church is by no means based upon "The City of God" by St Augustine.

This comparison needs a little work.

Quote: This comparison needs a little work.

It may need a little bit of work. But Isreal has long been considered to be a type of the Church today. The problem today is that to many pastors take Psychology courses instead of Theology Courses.

If you want to study some good teaching on the Bible, you have to go back a hundred years or so, to when people took the study of the Bible serious. We are now in a time when were were told there would be a falling away from the truth. Very few people read and study their Bible. It is getting to be harder and harder to find people who really know their Bible. Far to many people are passing opinions around that have nothing to do with the Bible, other than a failed attempt to try and explain it.
