humm..... actually, Paul was 'vexed' or 'annoyed', depending upon what version you read.
lil Greek word study here...... let's see what we find out.....
offend (as in Luke 17:2 - "It would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were thrown into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.) - skandalizo - to put a stumbling block or impediment in the way, upon which another may trip and fall, metaph. to offend, to entice to sin, to cause a person to begin to distrust and desert one whom he ought to trust and obey, to cause to fall away, to cause one to judge unfavourably or unjustly of another, et. al.
annoyed (as in Acts 16:18)And this she did for many days. But Paul, greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her." And he came out that very hour.) - diaponeo - to work out laboriously, make complete by labour, to exert one's self, strive, to manage with pains, accomplish with great labour, to be troubled, displeased, offended, pained, to be worked up.
HMM - Strongs has 'offend' in both definitions - however, my understanding of the English word "offend" attends much more immature personalities than Paul's....... much more in keeping with "skandalizo".......
