Oh yes there is also that too :). The lay ministry is also a quite active one, they should actually be the ones running the church (parishes), not the clergy. There are also quite a few lay ministries like Opus Dei, Opus Maria (I think they use the name "Vokolare", italian word for "Fire") . And I know im being paranoid here, but dont believe "The Da Vinci Code" here, Opus Dei is actually quite a good organisation.

Yeah I think this thread is pretty much an all male thread focused on vocations (including marriage).

My story:

Well I became a Christian at the age of 13. I say became Christian because up until then I could have cared less about Christ. It wasn't until last year I finaly came back to the church. I grew up until I was 8 in the Catholic church. Then my mom started taking us to an e-free church that fed me a bunch of anti Catholic teachings. In my time in college I became aware that the Catholic church was where God wanted me to be. I was going to school to become a pastor and hadn't chosen what denomination that I wanted to become ordained in. When I came back to the church I decided to allow some time back in the church and then discern what I wanted to do as far as being ordained. After about 4 months of being back I did finaly decide to discern priesthood. So all last year I discerned priesthood and it is the only thing that feels right for me.

So yeah thats it in a nut shell :)!

I have a natural ability to preach effectively from the word of God

On vocations & spiritual developments - I haven't been to seminary- so I am in the dark about what to do concerning a vocation

I spent 2 weeks with psychiatrists and medical doctors having a thorough examination of my pyschology +2 and going to a therapist

I had what the Orthodox call a spiritual prelest or delusional episode

I would enjoy the ability to preach and write sermons & theology

I'm good at writing sermons, so that is where I think I will find my niche - My sermons are good because I think I will be creating homilies soon

And I am still sowing spiritual blessings into that specific church on ETWN Catholic communion.

What's a spiritual prelest?

The article on top of this Orthodox page best sums it up as temporary state of spiritual delusion http://www.roca.org/OA/66-68/66n.htmI was admitted to a psychiatric hospital for 2 weeks based on the erroneous descisions of the people that had me incapacated because they didn't know any better. There is a word I am looking for in the dictionary, is a not good word.

What really bothers me concerning this topic of being admitted to a psychiatric hospital is that a priest did not even come to see me. Anyhow, I am doing well now after having been examined and tested thouroughly by doctors and medical staff (assistants) thank you all:wave: :)

Thank you for bringing this thread up Brother Justin.

I have just joined the forums and am discerning a monastic vocation. I am in contact with the Carmelite monks in Wyoming and Benedictine monks in Arizona. I have been praying to Our Lord and the Blessed Mother for guidance. I look forward to the discussions.

That is wonderful bro. I'm actualy on my way to joining the Salesians and will probly become a brother of the order as well as a priest :)! I want to live monasticly within the community of NJ with the kids and the poor.

Give us a little backround about yourself!

I will be praying for you Brother Justin. I am a Salesian Cooperator and they are a wonderful order.

As for me, I am a cradle Catholic. When I was younger I just went to church because my family did. I somewhat stopped in my early teens and returned toward the end of high school. I got more serious as I got older and became more devoted to the Blessed Mother and the Holy Eucharist. For years I have been thinking of the priesthood and monasticism. I am believe I am called to a life of contemplation and prayer. I have been praying on this for a while.

Thats great man. I too have given though to monastic life and still consider the life of a monastary as I continue to discern. God will guide us! I hope that your search goes well and I'm sure you will join a wonderful order of monks!

I will, God willing (and I'm pretty sure it is because I've been fighting with him about it for quite some time and am starting to give Him some leeway), be entering the Jesuit Novitiate in 3 years. I have the option to apply whenever I would like, but I'm a bit too involved at MU to leave before graduating.

That's interesting that you say that...I feel like I'm in a similar situation. I'm discerning the priesthood, but I really feel that my current university is where I need to be at now. I know I'm not ready to enter yet, but I was thinking of applying towards the end of my undergrad so I can enter the semester after I graduate...we'll see. I'm also aware of the arguments for just applying now, but I don't think I'm prepared enough for that....

If we have commitments to a particular group (for example, I have already promised to help build a sort-of youth ministry program at a nearby parish for the next three years), we should keep those commitments until the time is up, assuming that they are not hindering our relationship with our Lord, of course!
Apparently one of the men who made his first vows this past Saturday had just completed his 3 year at Loyola Marymount when he entered the Novitiate. He felt God was telling him that he should enter immediately after attending a discernment retreat, so he did (of course, he had to apply, etc).
May we have the same willingness to follow God when He beckons.

I did not realize that entering the Priesthood is parallel to obtaining University credits.
It's not. However, you do have to go to a Seminary and take classes....
In the case of entering the Jesuits, you take 3 years of college education (getting a degree in Philosophy and a year of theology in) after first vows, then about 4 years in "regency" where you work, then to seminary for MDiv, etc. in order to get ordained. After ordination, you may further your education, depending on what you are called to do (I know a priest who was sent to the University of Paris after his ordination to get his PhD in a theology field of some sort).
