Christian metal (with the exception of a couple bands)= horrible

DivineFire and Saviour Machine are good.

Otherwise, secular all the way.

I just got into My Dying Bride btw, best Doom band I've heard.

That seems to be spoken out of ignorance...considering how amazing many christian metal bands are nowadays.

In the past I would have agreed with you though. :)

This post provokes this burning question I've had for quite some time now. Since when does your religion affect your musical talent? I don't get it...

However, I don't listen to -much- metal, but some bands I do listen to are:
UnderØATH (my fave!)
Norma Jean (new and old)
Haste the Day
The Chariot
August Burns Red (haven't heard much, but I like what I have heard!)
and some Becoming the Archetype

ahh, there's nothing like the sound of screaming guitars late at night. :D

Well here's the thing, religion shouldn't affect musical talent, but in most cases it does.

It's actually not spoken out of ignorance.

Either they're terrible, or they're blatant ripoffs of secular bands.

Very few that are actually original and good.

So... by your theory, if I took guitar lessons my skills wouldn't be as good as a person who's not a christian? Somehow that guitar knows if I'm a christian or not? Your theory still fails...

I prefer the older metal style (look at my age)

Tourniquet
Barren Cross
Deliverance
Oil
Living Sacrifice
Six Feet Deep
Atomic Opera
Resurrection Band (I know - not really metal - but they're pioneers)
Disciple (Their stuff before 2004)
etc.
