No worries.

But in the future, keep in mind that one can make some pretty harsh accusations and condemn one's own brothers unjustly.

I'm getting kind of tired of hearing creationists use the "We both have the same evidence, we just interpret it differently," argument. It's getting old and tired, and no more valid. Facts are like puzzle pieces, pieces with very precise nooks and crannies. When a sufficient number are present (as with evolutionary theory) there can be no "different" interpretation. They only fit together in one logical manner, forming an ever-expanding picture that we refer to as a theory in science. The creationist "interpretation" inevitably ends up with puzzle pieces clicking together awkwardly, and when taken as a whole you realize that the reds are intermixed with the blues, and sky pieces are lined up in the middle of where the ground should be. It sounds nice to be able to call your opponent's stance "just another interpretation", but in the scientific community that kind of claim is nothing more than disingenuous.

Hey I've said that many times before myself and yet like a fool I keep coming back. ;) The thing is I used to take this much more serious, but I've long since realized that approach is counter-productive.

I now see it more like a train wreck and like most tragedies I can't stop gawking, each time I visit I anticipate being presented with new 'facts' and/or 'theology' which will contribute to the carnage. If it weren't so serious it could actually be amusing and even at times interesting. :(

So don't go, come back and don't let it what you read here get to you. You belong here more than you realize.

 well, I can't make your decision for you. But I hope that a slip or two won't suddenly frighten you away from here. Many of us can be very gruff, but I hope you won't take it as hostility. It's just this particular section of the Forums, I think.

I am glad I am only part human - therefore I do not stick my foot in my mouth that often;)

Now as far as Redneck Crows comment about "stiff" cedars referring to male genetalia - oh my! Such would not be found in the Bible!! ;)

Ok, joking, but tail is a tail and even if it means it's you-know-what there are other descriptions that would make it a very unusually large Hippo...

And the post that talked about the Crocs tail being big... the "tail" verse is in the passage about the Behemoth, not the Leviathan....and people call the Behemoth a Hippo.

Job 41:27 - 29 "He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.
Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear."

Takes something a lot bigger and more armoured than a Croc to break up iron & brass.... something more like a 50' Mososaur...

Except we know from the skin impressions found so far that mosasaurs weren't armored the way crocs were.
And I highly doubt even the largest mosasaurs were able to break iron or brass. If it wasn't obvious, those ancient Hebrews had a habit of greatly exaggerating things (plenty of examples here: http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/2003/PSCF12-03Fischer.pdf).

Great! Then surely you can show me where I made the comment you attribute to me referring to the male genitalia. I'd love to see it.

So is Behemoth=hippo and croc=Levithan is your final answer? I'm trying to figure out what is what here, not what people call what.

Job 41:27 - 29 "He esteemeth iron as straw, and brass as rotten wood.
The arrow cannot make him flee: slingstones are turned with him into stubble.

The croc has a bite strength of up to 3000 psi. I think that would go a long way toward breaking up ancient iron and brass armor. And having handled small crocodilians, I'd say that they esteemeth weaponry and tools naught from first hand observation.

But does the comparison refer to size? Two translations (Jerusalem Bible and NRSV) translate the verse as "it makes its tail stiff like a cedar". So the key element is stiffness, not size.

Also a propos is that "tail" here may be a euphemism for male genitalia. That would be appropriate if one is talking about "stiffness" rather than size. It would also make sense of the KJV rendering of the second half of this couplet, which refers to Behemoth's "stones". In Hebrew poetry, the second half of a couplet often echoes the first.

Most translations say "thighs" rather than "stones". But again, "thighs" was a common euphemism for male genitalia.

Could you cite the reference to the size of the legs? I don't see it. The closest is a reference to the strength of its bones. That doesn't seem to have much to do with size or proportion.

Arghh, you were right Redneck Crow, it was Gluadys:blush:

Wonderful, my "human" part must have come out and I stuck my foot in my mouth - sort of.

No, my final conclusion and my beleif these past 20 years is that Behemoth = Brachiosaurus or other large sauropod and Leviathan is some type of seagoing dragon... maybe even something that's fossils haven't been discovered yet. (Since Mososaurs have no scales.... but similar size.)

I'll answer your questions in order:

1. Yes they are, in the book of Job.
2.Its just a nmae given by humans. I sometimes call roaches terrible insects. If you thing about it, crocodiles are terrible lizards!
3. Many creatures such as the tazmanian wolf are extinct. You cna't blame it on God. Infact, how do we know all dinosaurs are extinct.
4. Many reports come out of New Guinea saying that they've seen pterosaurs. I've even seen a picture though I cannot find it on the net.

And?

3. Many creatures such as the tazmanian wolf are extinct. You cna't blame it on God. Infact, how do we know all dinosaurs are extinct.
Well, the birds are still there. But no other dinosaurs have been found for 65 mill. years.

4. Many reports come out of New Guinea saying that they've seen pterosaurs. I've even seen a picture though I cannot find it on the net.
And likewise, people have seen Bigfoot, the Yeti, the Loch ness monster, aliens making crop circles and a bunch of other nonsense. We also had a nice picture of the Loch Ness monster. Was it the photographer's son who recently explained how his dad admitted the hoax? For such silly claims, we need a bit more evidence.

Job 41:1-10

Well he said how could God make something called a terrible lizard. It is a name given by humans. It doesn't matter what we call it. If could call them tiddlywinks you could say "Thats because God wants us to play with them!" It is just a name and nothing more. :)

Well, the birds are still there. But no other dinosaurs have been found for 65 mill. years.
How do you know? Have you been alive for 65 million years?

Yes, you're right. But we also don't have proof that they do not exist!
