Well, if putting tracts in with your bill payments might clog the mail-opening machines and make the operators mad...

What about putting scripture and evangelistic stickers on the outside of the envelope?

Make up some stickers on the computer and print them out, sticking one to each envelope that leaves your house.

That way, every person who touches your mail will be exposed to the gospel message.

I used verses like John 3:17 and Romans 5:1.

Any reason not to do this?

To Lambslove:

There was a whole list of brain teasers which were posted to billboards throughout the United States, to get people thinking. I believe they were paid for by a collection of Christian businesspeople of no particular denomination.

They were GREAT! I'll look for the list, but just offhand, I remember a few of them:

"Let's meet at my house before the game on Sunday. Bring the kids. God."

"What part of *Thou shalt not* don't you understand? God."

"Read my book. There'll be a test later. God."

I'll do a web search...

Peace be with you,
~VOW

I've seen those. So has everyone else. They are getting to be jokes among the unsaved now, they have been over used.

One parody of them that I've seen was on a bar's sign:
"Let's meet at my house before the game--Your Bartender"

another was a bumper sticker:
"What part of 'I don't care' don't YOU understand?--an atheist"

Like every other clever thing, Christians really have to use something into the ground before they let it go.

One thing I've noticed, from hanging around on Internet Infidels, and from my personal life, is that there's *VERY* few people in this country, at least, who haven't *heard* the Gospel. There are a lot who are not, for one reason or another, ready to accept it... and who will become *LESS* ready every time it's shoved at them.

Not that I necessarily have any better ideas.

And VOW, thanks for the link to the billboards. Those were pretty cool, although I disagree with the Big Bang one, of course. :)

One thing I've found from hanging around with general unsaved people, not just the atheists, is that they are interested in God, but have no idea what is in the Bible or how it applies to them.

I wouldn't bother trying to witness to atheists in a direct manner, but as St Paul did, give the good news to those who are willing to listen. I can't see anywhere in the Bible that Paul chased down atheist and try to change there minds. There were, and are, plenty of people who are sincerely interested in Christ, but don't know anything about him. Those are the ones we should be concentrating on. That is the "field that is white with harvest"!

seebs, I'm not sure I agree that most people have "heard the gospel", at least not in the way that conservative Christians might want them to. There are many liberal Christians who reject hell and pretty much all ideas of "saved" and "unsaved", and some of these ideas have crept into the mainstream Christianity as well. I have known people who believed that getting into heaven was a matter of good deeds vs. bad deeds, or who believed that a murderer or rapist could never be forgiven by God no matter what. If even the people who call themselves Christians don't know "the gospel", then I would imagine that many agnostics and atheists do not either. Rememeber that not all agnostics are actively rejecting religion, a lot of them just don't care and don't think about it a lot. This is certainly how I was when I was an agnostic -- I spent almost no time thinking about Christianity or religion in general.

Amen! I have many Bibles and not one of them has a verse saying The Great Commission had been rescinded. If all people have heard and understood the Gospel, how is it I am still able to lead individuals to Christ?

NO, the call to cease spreading the Gospel, does not come from Christ. It comes from the willing and unwitting agents of the evil one.

I like what you said about the "so called Christians", and I lump the so called "liberal Christians" in the same group, since they literally reject everything Jesus said in some form or another, by "explaining away" what He said.

No Jesus commanded us to bear fruit. When it becomes impossible to do that, Jesus, Himself, will let us know, and not some "Liberal Christian"!

Jesus would never command us to do something that did not need to be done or was impossible for us to do.

I didn't realize that God had given you the authority to judge and classify who is and who isn't a real Chrsitian, Gerry.  I'd like to hear the criteria that God handed down to you.  It would be wuite interesting to know.

Sure Lambslove! Happy to give it to you. I go by the criteria God handed down to me in His written Word in Matthew 7:16 and matthew 7:20.

Matthew 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

There are some others but I think two should be sufficient.

That is the criteria. Now for the authority, I use II Timothy 4:2-5, for one.
<DIR>2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;4 And they shall turn away <I>their</I> ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. <I>{make…; or, fulfil}</DIR></I>I also use this:
<DIR>1 Corinthians 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?1 Corinthians 6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?

I hope this answers your question. Thanks for asking!

There are many people who comes in the disguise as Christians. I also call them the ‘so called’ Christians. These people are doing much harm, and we are warned in scripture to be on the lookout for them.

It’s not everyone who calls themselves Christians, who are, but it’s those who do the will of God and one way to know is to see how people act in the Agape love.
