Why do you think there will be no christians on the earth after Jesus comes?

The bible tells us plainly that the planet earth will remain forever. When the bible talks about the 'earth' passing away it is talking about the system of things, ie government, nations, etc. Not about the planet itself. The bible is also very plain that there will always be a human population on the earth. How else can God bless a thousand generations (roughly 40,000 years) if earth and mankind is to only last 7000 years? Those who are transformed into glorified bodies become the bride of christ, whose home is the New Jerusalem which descends out of heaven. The OT righteous compose the wife of God and are in heaven, while the mortals who survive the great tribulation and millennial reign of christ will dwell upon the earth.

...I think all the real Christians are gunna go to Heaven...
Note that no verse says the rapture takes us any higher than the clouds.

Some believe the rapture must be pre-trib and must take us all the way into heaven because of John 14:1-3. But note that there Jesus simply said "I will come again, and receive you unto myself." He didn't say he would come back before the tribulation or that he would take us into heaven.

Jesus said "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3). Note that he says we will be where he is after he comes again. He says nothing about his making a U-turn back into heaven. And indeed we will be where he is after he comes again: on the earth during the millenium (Revelation 20:4-6, 5:10, 2:26-29).

I believe Jesus said "In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you," to show why he was going, not why he was coming back, and to show that he still has great and eternal plans for us in New Jerusalem, where the Father will dwell with us after the millenium (Revelation 21:2-3).

In John 14:2,3 Jesus said He was going to His Father. He also said that when He went He was going to prepare a place for us. He had to have been talking about a place in heaven otherwise the text would make no sense. .............................After all that He says He is coming again to get us and take us with Him. ...Why would He come to take us there if there isn't some plan for us to stay for at least a while. Heb. 9:28 says He will appear the second time. This will be when He comes for His saints both those that are alive and those that are dead. .....

He will take us up to meet Him in the air. He isn't doing this just to drop us back down on earth. He is coming to take us in the air to keep the promise to take us to His Father's House.

Rev. 20:4...And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. ... Now according to this those that go back with Jesus at His second coming, will be with Him there in heaven for 1,000 years.

verse 5...But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. In other words the unrighteous don't live again till after the thousand years are up.This is the first resurrection((those in verse 4)

What happened to those that didn't go to heaven When Jesus comes again? 2Thess 1:7,8...2Thess. 2:8...They will be destroyed at the Lords coming These will stay dead for a thousand years.

After the thousand years up up they will be resurrected. Rev. 20:7,8...And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. According to these verses the wicked are to be raised and tempted once more by the devil. Till they were resurrected the devil had no one to tempt.

They with the leading of the devil go to attack the city that comes down from heaven Rev.20:9...and Rev.21:2..

The attack is halted before it gets the chance to happen and the wicked and the devil are burned up here on earth.
The earth also burns.2Peter:6-7,10.

After the fire burns out the earth is made new Rev. 21:1..After the fire goes out and the earth is restored to the original at the time of Adam and Eve, man will then live here on earth.....

Hi Willis,

Welcome back!! I was wondering if you would return or not, but I'm glad you did ;)  I think you're right. The earth will remain. I believe it will be recharged and remodeled. Our ozone layer will need some work along with all the pollution that needs to be cleaned up. I believe the new earth will be the way it was when Adam walked the earth. I also believe that God will pull all the continents back together and unconfuse all the languages and men will once again live to be very old, like a thousand years or so. There will be no more sea, and Jerusalem will be the center of the earths land mass. And God will once again come down and walk and talk to man, like He did when Adam was in the garden. But this is still a long way off, over a thousand years.

...Why would He come to take us there...
Jesus didn't say he would come to take us there, but said "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3). And indeed we will be where he is after he comes again: on the earth during the millennium (Revelation 20:4-6, 5:10, 2:26-29).

...He will take us up to meet Him in the air...
Yes, I believe we will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air on his way down to set his feet on the earth.

Because 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 shows Jesus "coming," but doesn't show him landing on the earth, some believe it refers to a Yo-Yo coming of Jesus whereby he comes down only as far as the clouds and then goes back up to heaven. But Matthew 24:29-31 doesn't show Jesus landing on the earth either. Do some then believe that Matthew 24:29-31 is also not the 2nd coming? 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17 doesn't show Jesus returning to heaven. Acts 1:11 says Jesus will "come" just as he left: he won't come only as far as the clouds and then return to heaven again, just as he didn't leave only as far as the clouds and then return to earth again. He went from the Mount of Olives to the clouds to heaven, he will come from heaven to the clouds to the Mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4). There's no 3rd coming of Jesus.

...He isn't doing this just to drop us back down on earth...
Our being caught up into the clouds to meet Jesus' at his coming and then returning back to the earth with him will be similar to the people coming out of Jerusalem to meet Jesus and then returning back to the city with him (John 12:12-13) or the Roman Christians coming out of Rome to meet Paul and returning back to the city with him (Acts 28:15-16).

And just as planes go up, then back down, for good purpose, so the rapture will serve a good purpose. We will have been gathered from all over the world into one place in the clouds so that we all might descend together with the Lord to Jerusalem. As a brother said, "God doesn't want to wait for his people to WALK to Jerusalem from all over the world."

I think after we are removed from planet earth we go into the presence of the Lord to receive our rewards and then we stay in heaven for seven years while the anti-christ is taking over the world and after that seven year period we come back to earth with Christ for the final battle, I guess that would be the pre-tribulation view is that correct?  Then again there is no guarentee of the timing of the rapture unless something comes up in the news papers about some other event that will appear to be of the prophetic nature. Anyway, this is what I've always been taught but I just can't seem to locate any of this in the bible unless I look in the chapters of Matthews gospel it does seem to give some hints as to the timing.  I see in Mt 24 there are many references to tribulation times that look like some really terrible events happening there.   Any thoughts?

rolling I believe that there will be no one left alive when Jesus returns because that is what the Bible tells me. 2Thess. 1:7,8 and 2:8...Rev. 20:4 tells about the saints reigning with Jesus. verse 5 tells us that the rest do not live till after the 1000 years are up. Now if the wicked are all destroyed at His return, then they will stay that way till the end of the 1000 years.

The earth will be made new. It will be restored to its natural perfection before sin entered into it. The wicked will be destroyed right here on the earth. Peter says "But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 2Peter 3:7..Now according to peter the earth and heavens are kept in store for this day. .. ..."For it is the day of the Lord's vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion. And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch," Isa. 34:8,9..Here the entire planet is enveloped in the destroying fire. ....

"Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup." Ps. 11:6.....

"Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn the, they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: there shall not be a coal to warm at, nor fire to sit before it." Isa. 47:14

And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.: Mal. 4:1,3

"But the day of th eLord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up...Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?...Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness." 2 Peter 3:10,12, 13............Now according to this the earth will be burned up and the surrounding atmosphere as well as what ever is on the earth. It also goes on to say that all will be made new.

I believe myself that this planet will remain. It will not be totally gone. Just the portions that have been affected by sin. I would think that would take a good portion of the covering of the earth, but not the whole thing. I could be wrong about that tho. but It will be renewed to its original state when it was made for Adam and Eve. Once the earth is made new (right before our very eyes) we will inhabit the earth..."Blessed are the meek:for they shall inherit THE EARTH." Mattl 5:5

The earth after the fire will be totally cleansed from all forms and signs of sin. There won't be any traces left for us to see ever again. None of the evil doings that are here will be here to be seen. Nothing, only the perfect earth as God had intended from the beginning.

postrib,

John 14:2,3.....In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

These 2 texts are saying that our Heavenly Father has many mansions.
Jesus says I go to prepare a place for you. Why would He prepare a place in heaven for us if He had no plans to take us there? Why even bother to tell us that He is going to do this if He has no intentions? He says He is going to His Father to prepare a place for us. If He don't take us then that means this text is a lie!

Jude says He comes with ten thousands of His saints. verse 14.

There is no way that Jesus would promise His faithful ones that He'd prepare them a place in heaven and then not take them there. It just isn't logical or honest on Christ's part. I personally take everything Christ said as fact and as truth. So for me to believe He isn't taking us would go against this trust I have in His Words.

He is collecting us into the air so that we can, after being gathered together all go up with Him. If that isn't the case He would just come down here and then have us collected and brought to Him that way.

Well, Gerry, why don't you answer the guys question instead of making fun of what he said?  Your response to his quotes and comments are a bit on the condescending side don't you think?  I hope new converts to Christ don't see your post!  Or maybe you can't answer his questions.... you seem to know so much!

thusaith,

Many are rude on here like Gerry's reply. They laugh at what one believes and then don't bother giving their veiw nor do they answer questions, just belittle the questioner.
We may not all agree on here, but we all love the Lord,so we say, so that we do all have in common. With that in common we should respect our fellow Christians, whether we agree or not........And instead of belittling the one asking the question we should answer their question...It is our chance to witness and to share........

God bless...

I have no problem with us having disagreements but at the same time we need to respect those who have questions and not talk down at them.  That's the feeling I got when I read his reply to the fellow who asked some pretty good questions I thought anyway.  It's not a good witness to those who are new in the faith either.  Thanks for your reply rainbow....

...we are removed from planet earth...
Note that no verse says the rapture takes us any higher than the clouds.

...the saints reigning with Jesus...
The church will reign with Jesus on the earth during the millennium (Revelation 2:26-29; Revelation 5:10; Revelation 20:4).

...the wicked are all destroyed at His return...
I believe the ones "left" at His return (Matthew 24:40) will be survivors of the heathen nations that came against Jerusalem, who will be forced to worship Jesus in the millennium (Zechariah 14:16-18), and whom we will rule "with a rod of iron" during that time (Revelation 2:26-29, 5:9-10, 20:4). They will be the ones who will populate the millennium.

...the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up...
Note that Peter refers to the "day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men" as the day the heavens and earth will vanish (2 Peter 3:7-10), just as Revelation 20:11-21:1 says will happen after the millennium at the great white throne judgment of all unbelievers. So he is not referring to only the 2nd coming itself, which is the day of the Lord we are told to wait for (1 Corinthians 1:7-8), but to what will happen at the end of the "thousand years as one day" (2 Peter 3:8).

We know that Peter wasn’t referring to only the 2nd coming itself because only the current world system will end at the 2nd coming (1 Corinthians 7:31). The earth itself won’t be destroyed, but instead renewed into Edenic perfection during the millennium (Matthew 19:28; Isaiah 51:3, 30:23-25).

The end of the world will bring the restoration of the earth, for Christ will come to "destroy those who destroy the earth" (Revelation 11:18), and to bring us back into right relation with it (Micah 4:4, Isaiah 32:14-20).

...Why would He prepare a place in heaven for us if He had no plans to take us there?...
I believe Jesus said "In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you," to show why he was going, not why he was coming back, and to show that he still has great and eternal plans for us in New Jerusalem, where the Father will dwell with us after the millennium: "I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God" (Revelation 21:2-3).

...If He don't take us then that means this text is a lie...
No, it isn't a lie. Note again that Jesus simply said "I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also" (John 14:3); he said we will be where he is after he comes again. He said nothing about his making a U-turn back into heaven. And indeed we will be where he is after he comes again: on the earth during the millennium (Revelation 20:4-6, 5:10, 2:26-29).

JN 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going." (NIV)

Nobody that is unsaved survives the 2nd coming. Those who are saved, return with Jesus to heaven. After "1,000 years" the saved return to earth and witness the end of sin and sinners prior to the creation of a new earth.

New Jerusalem is in heaven......Rev. tells us that it is seen coming down from heaven......

He said he was going to prepare a place for us.......I believe that is where He was referring......

He is coming here ot take us back with Him. If the wicked die at His second coming and all the righteous go with Him that leaves the earth desolate for a thousand years.

The devil and his angels will be here with no one to tempt for that time ... At the end of the thousand years the city comes down.

The wicked dead are resurrected...The devil deceives them into believing they can overcome the Holy City and when they try they are stopped.

They now have their sentence of death to face.

God recreates the original design of the planet earth and sin is bannished forever.

Jude says in verse 14 that the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, ....He is coming with not for or to. That is because they are coming down in the Holy City to execute judgment on the wicked.
