I think it's important to actually know something about the genre before making sweeping generalizations about it. Many emceez like Jurny Big, LPG or New Breed are doing something that a lot of "Christian" emceez are not......actually going out and impacting the culture and actually going into the hip hop culture and making a difference not just by spouting cliches about Jesus but living out their faith in the full view of the very people they are ministering to.

In regards to speaking on hip hop..etc etc......the references to hip hop are two-fold, one is speaking and lamenting on the moral decay which seems to be creeping into hip hop culture and the other is in reference to staying true to the art form through their gifts. There is nothing wrong with seeking after excellence(parable of the talents y'all).

Man I was blown away by some of the comments on this board. Christian Rap "self exalting". That is funny to me. Why would one stereo type the whole genre?
Some of the lyrics are in joust, then others are about their lifestyle. Most of the CD's I listen to are totally about their relationship with God and how it effects their relationship with others. What one should do is support our "brothers and sisters". They are out there on the battle field fighting where most of us refuse to go. They are not compromising themselves or their relationship with God, they minister "Truth" so that others will come to know "The Love of Christ". Just because we don't understand or don't particular care for the music, does not mean that God's Hand is not on it.

Could not have said it better.

Hey yall, In my opinion, I think people have a bad impression of hip hop to begin with, and that makes them doubt how "christian" hip hop can be. Most of these artists are working for God the best way they know how. Sure, it would be a lot easier to go mainstream and rap about whatever, but they choose to represent Jesus Christ in a culture that expects something different and I respect that.
