As a parent, do you (or would you) desire your children to lack anything good?

If they could handle it? And be safe and wise with it?

Is God as good are you are?

I think this is the answer you are looking for:

Mat 7:9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

So, According to the bible God is better at giving to His children then we are to ours.

Amen, and Proverbs 4:12 says "For whom the Lord loves, he reproves, even as a father, the son in whom he delights".

God tells us that He treats His children just like a good earthly father treats his children.

Do we think of God as a wealthy parent who will give everything we ask for or do we think of Him as our Creator who loves us deeply that He will take care of us no matter what? Will we become spoiled kids like many of the rich parents have their own problems with their spoiled kids?

No offence Jim

God is far better than him, you, me, and everyone else in the world

Definately would give to my nephews what they can handle, however I've noticed at time my sister will not give something to her kids, simply because they cant handle the consequences

Maybe when God doesnt give something to one of his people, its because he sees the biger picture and knows they can not handle it

If I know the 'good' is what's best for them right now, I will do my best to provide it.

But that's a big if.

Chocolate is good; it tastes good, it makes one feel good, and it has (a few) health benifits. But I certianly withhold it more than I give it. In the car it melts and is messy; before dinner it spoils appetite for veges; too much will make one overweight.

Singing praise to God is good. But it isn't allowed in certian times and places, such as at table, after lights out, when someone is talking, etc.

God is a much better parent than I am. He knows so much more about what is 'good' and when it is good for me. He never has to guess, and He is much more able to provide the good things when they are needed.

I feel that God knowes what is best and he knowes it all he was the one in the first place to give us the knowledge and understanding that we have now. He holds the key. I feel God is better than any parent than any day, God knowes more than everyone on this world put together. He knowes what kids and adults can handle and what they can't he says it in his world and he never lies or breaks his promises:)

So true, Tatu!

My kids are now 27 and 21. And I still LOVE to bless them! Oh, how I love to see the smiles on their faces when I bless them!! :D It warms my heart!

I give them things, as well as compliments, all the time.... and I especially like the "just because" times I give!

My son lives in Chicago. Last month I sent him two $100 bills in a card saying "Just because you are special! Buy something just for you!" :)

The month before I sent him a check for $500..... again, just because. :p

Last week I mailed him, and his girlfriend, each Nordstrom gift cards and Starbucks gift cards! They love both places and are working on their MBA's and I know it is a treat for them.

My daughter lives close to me....... I take her to the spa for massages and pedicures! She LOVES it! I call her up, spur-of-the-moment and say "Let's go!" and we have girls' day out! My treat! I live for those times with her! She is soooooo special to me!

The other day I stuck $100 bill in her purse - just because. She called me saying "Mmmmoooooommmm! You didn't have to do it, but I thank you soooo much!"

Yes! Some will argue (I can hear it now :o ) "Those are material things, only eternal things matter."

My answer: SO WHAT! I have it and I can afford it and I desire to do it.............. I wish I was richer and could give them even more!

They work hard. They value me, God and the gifts I give them.

Many a time, as my heart is warmed and I am smiling ear-to-ear after blessing my kids, I think "Wow, God must feel just like this when He sees us smile!"

Oh yes! The wealthiest parent that ever was!!!

who will give everything we ask for

If I delight in Him, He'll give me the desires of my heart Ps.37

or do we think of Him as our Creator who loves us deeply that He will take care of us no matter what?

that, too!

He sure has spoiled me over the years. And yeah, sometimes I've been a problem and He's cleaned up many of my messes, rebuked me, reproved me, hugged me, loved me and been a perfect Father in every way.

God is more willing to give then you are ready and able to receive.

The number of fish caught were limited by man -- He told them to let down the netS, man let down one net.

The oil for the pots stopped when the widow could not find any more empty pots.

The multiplication of the loaves stopped when they had enought to eat and said "No more thanks!" And there were 12 basketfuls leftover.

He healed the paralytic but forgave his sins as well. The guy and his friends probably didn't expect that bonus blessing.

In all cases the supply stopped when man said enough. When God blesses, He doesn't know how to stop. It is man who limits God's generosity, not God.

God is a blessing God. The greater blesses the lesser.

The priesthood of Melchizedek is a blessing one. The only words out of Melchi's mouth to Abraham were blessings.

The New Testament begins with a priest who was made dumb and couldn't give the blessings to the people when he came out of the temple becos of unbelief.

The New Testament ends with Jesus blessing as He arose to heaven, and it doesnt say He stopped.

So the problem lies with man's ability or inability to receive, not God's.

God's agenda for our lives may be far different from our own. He cares more about our character than our convenience, comfort or cash. Joseph M. Stowell

My wonderful parents who made sure I know Christ while growing up that they have planted the seed and waited for the Holy Spirit to reap me.

Ephesians 6:4, "And, fathers, do not provoke your children to anger but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord." Parenting is loving your children so that they're not angry with you and bringing them up to know the Lord.

My parents taught me that the greatest wealth is in Christ and I can get that spiritual wealth as a gift.

That's what I have heard, Churchlady!! My mom was the greatest example of doting on her grandkids! Christmas, and all year long, she lived to give to her grandbabies -- much more than she gave to us, her own kids!! ;)

I am praying, though, that my kids don't give me grandbabies yet..... they both want to wait til they are more established... and I wholeheartedly agree! :D I am only 48 after all.... WAYYYYYY too young to be called "Grandma"! :)

My son always teases me and says: "Mom, I can just see it now. My holy-roller mom giving cookies to my kids saying "Praise the Lord, alleluia! Have a cookie!" ..." ^_^

GOD IS SO VERY GOOD!!!

We cannot outdo Him - ever!

Good thread, Tatu :amen:

Ain't that the truth, Tatu?

Why are people so afraid to accept the GOOD GIFTS, albeit temporal, from God???????

His Word says He wants us blessed.. heck, look at David, Abraham, Joshua, Proverbs 31 woman, Deborah....Jabez.... so many examples of God's blessings!!

THE MORE WE ARE BLESSED WITH THE MORE WE CAN BLESS OTHERS!!! :amen:

Lord, I pray now, that You bless all my friends here on CF with MORE THAN ENOUGH.... that they be BLESSED TO BE A BLESSING... that they have success at the work of their hands....that You prosper all they do..... ON EARTH as it is in Heaven... according to Your Word let it be established!

Help those who are reticent to receive... those who feel guilty receiving earthly pleasures. Open their eyes to see the real You, Lord... and bless them beyond measure!

Thank You......in advance, Lord, as I know this prayer is in Your will and You grant answers to prayers in Your will!

In Jesus' Name..................:amen: :amen: :amen:
