• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Another thing suffering has taught me about Jesus:

Matt 11:28-30
28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
(NIV)

Amen, Pumanator. I have found that being a part of recovery sites in here or Christian Recovery and Support groups has helped me see just how valuable our sufferings can be to others.

BTW, everyone, it may seem like it, but I really don't want to hog this site. (I'm just talkative.) ;)

Sure.
1. Ways to help:
First, there is the Recovery forum in CF with several rooms, starting with general struggles. Many people who help in there have obviously suffered a lot in the past, so they have a lot to give and teach.

If I haven't mentioned it, I think of two passages in particular: Isaiah 61:1-3, and the first part of II Cor. 1. :amen:

Also, there is often opportunity to help in the Edification forum, the Christian Advice room. And in the Outreach Forum, the Struggles by Non-Christians room. And, there is this room, where I know you all have been helping others, in this thread for example.

2. Ways to be helped and to help:
first, for addicts, there are free courses in www.settingcaptivesfree.com in which a person works with the student, checking his answers. After the course is taken, the student can then help others take the course.

next, for the location of a Christian 12-Step group near you, contact www.overcomersoutreach.org or send an email to Saddleback Church in California - many churches host their recovery program. Also, I have a friend who is a member of a Christian 12 step Yahoo group online that seems very helpful and active - I'll ask her the website and get back to you on that. (One thing, the emails need to be sent in a daily batch, or you'll get swamped.) All these types of groups are especially helpful for anyone with PTSD.

Anyone else have some good websites or suggestions for ways in which we can help others? Or questions about some particular type of websites?

I believe today He has taught me through dreams/nightmares that life is worth living even when life gets really hard (see my thread on plz pray). Since writting that in a kinda freaked out state I'm being to see His reason for shaking my tree. I have been fighting the feeling of wishing to go home when I'm in a lot of pain which makes me useless to Him to encourage other.

I watched a special on History channel about Lincoln and how the firery furnace worked in his life. Made me think.

If one is dealing with locomotion that is very true. It is also true in trucking...but a load can be so heavy that it burns up or breaks equipment...catostrophic failure comes to mind. Jesus offers to lighten our load but he also allows others to come along side, if they will awnser the call...all of us must ask ourselves, do we lighten ppls loads, or God forbid, add to them. No matter the load we bare, we can lighten others and by doing so we lighten our own,,,win win.

Great quote Beth:thumbsup:

Amen. And the "catastrophic failure" reminds me of another favorite verse:

2 Cor 1:9
9 Indeed, in our hearts we felt the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.
(NIV)

As for helping to bear each other's burdens, a lot of people have been doing that in this thread and in CF, haven't they?

For those of you who have had enough time to see some lessons, would you share them here? I thought this would be a good place to encourage each other. Thanks in advance.

Aloha in Jesus
From the day I was born until today, I have had trials & tribulations, I was born with a cleft lip & palate, I almost died of meningitis when I was 16 months old, I've been in several MVA's one of which was a roll over down a small embankment that probably should have killed me as I wasn't wearing a seat belt, and I have suffered financial devistation.

As a child, my mother never had pity on me nor would she allow anyone else to feel sorry for me (aunts, uncles & grandparents) I was treated like my siblings, punished for my wrongs and praised for my rights. I was not told that due to the miningitis I may never walk again, so I did! I was never told that my equipment for talking was backwards and I would never talk, so I do, (I learned that when I was 19)

I now have degenerating disk & a ruptured disk in my L-5 to S-1, most likely from the MVA but also because I'm just getting old! I have DeQuervain's & Tenosynovitis in my right wrist due to a OJI (on the job injury)

I believe that I am who I am because of my "disability's & suffering" it gave me compassion for others.

This is one of the most depressing threads I think I've ever read anywhere on the internet.

Praising God's name and embracing the mystery of it all like your names are all Job. I'm not sure how to respond to that, other than to hope that somebody steps up in your lives since God appears to be on vacation.

Puma, your post on the first page is one of the most honest I've seen written by a person of faith. I congratulate you on your lucidity.

I agree. Very depressing...

I too am in wicked pain and I don't even ask to be healed. Like Puma said, I look around and see so much suffering and God doesn't help them, why would he help me. I'm 49 and scared. I don't go to church anymore cause I hurt too much to sit still and when I quit qoing not one person I thought was my friend ever even called me up to see why I quit coming. I was involved in a ministry and when I told the leader I couldn't work anymore she never even asked me if I would be ok and I never heard from her again...

I've almost come to the conclusion that Jesus doesn't care. It's much better to believe he doesn't care than to believe he cares but won't help.

And I am not the only one, my wife also has some wicked health problems for 20 years, with no relief other than to eat crazy amounts of different drugs...

I just laugh at myself now. Stupid old fat fool... At least my Narcotic pain killers lift my mood...

I had to check to see that wasn't my post! When I left church after 4 years in it, no one called to see if I was still alive, not even the couple who drove us there each week.
Most christians don't care; maybe for Ethiopians or missions, but no one in their midst.
I also believe there are some folk God created just to suffer all their lives and I am one.

I just wanted to respond to pumanator. You're right, we all don't want to suffer. I don't think that God wants us to suffer, either. Not enough emphasis is placed upon prayers and efforts made to bring people out of suffering. Unfortunately it's a fact of life, so if you should suffer, make sure you take the opportunity as a chance to grow.
