I am praying for wisdom about finding my calling.

I ask you to agree with me in prayer as I ask my God to keep his promise in James 1:5

I want to use my passions, skills, and gifts to do Kingdom work (church or ministry webmaster, church marketing, ministry resource marketing, etc., but the Lord has not opened many doors in this area).

I thought the Lord called me to this when my last career of 20 years ended 4 years ago.  But churches cannot afford my professional rates.

Instead, business doors keep opening.  I take the work to support my family, but feel that this is a lower calling, focused on filthy lucre instead of Kingdom Gold (though it does produce the ability to tithe and serve ministries at no charge).

Maybe I misunderstood the calling I thought the Lord laid on my heart.  Or maybe this business work is the calling, so that I can tithe and give of my time.

I pray for wisdom to see and hear what the Lord wants me to do instead continuing to seek what I thought was my calling.

e4God I will keep you in my prayers.

I feel a need to say something here, please don't take it the wrong way, I'm not trying to judge what you are trying to do, but merely trying to give a little more meaning, and understnading about the situation you are in.

You mention you want to use your gifts to do Gods work, but that the church can't afford it. I think that maybe what God is trying to show you, is that this gift and knowledge he has given to you freely, is something you in turn should give of freely to the church, think of it this way. If you seek to charge the church for your services, you are in a way charging God for what he has given to you free of charge. So maybe God does want you to help out others with the talents and gifts he gave you, but he wants you to offer it freely. And he will pour out his blessings on you for doing so. If he is providing you with an income from another source be thankful for it, and see it as a sign that yes God wants you to use the gifts he gave you, but not as a source of income.

I hope this will help you understand how God wants us to use the gifts he gives us. Pray for guidence about those he wants you to help with your gifts. It's a great gift he gave you, and you can give to so many others freely with it, just as he gave it freely to you.

Maybe the Lord is opening doors in the business world because He wants you there for some reason. Just because you have a job that isn't ministry-related doesn't mean you have to focus on the money. Focus on why God wants you there instead! I'll be praying for you.

Thank you all for your prayers.  The fast response is encouraging.

Some of these words provoke a little defensiveness....  As for my rates and charging God...  I do sometimes volunteer my time, and materials, etc.  Just the other day I gave my church $200 worth of printing and $1000 worth of design time.  I enjoy doing this when I can.

When I charge, I do not charge God, but might charge a ministry in the same way they pay for electricity, secretarial labor, an ad agency, or a pastor salary.  I charge half my usual rate for ministry work. People tithe to support the work of a ministry, because there are bills and payroll to meet.  If I pass up business oportunities to work on things for God, I think the verse, "A workman is worthy of his wage" should apply.  Don't you?

I wish I could work in a real ministry - part time or full time...  When I work on minstry efforts during my work day, using my professional skills and talents, I feel I should be as right to charge for that as a secretary or pastor charges for their time.  If a ministry pays for electricity, and for pastors and leaders, then I think it should be ok to support my family by charging.

Or does wisdom say work for the world and give money to God ?

I understand why you feel defensive, We all need to make a living, put food on our tables etc...

Now that you mentioned you do volunteer these services to the church when you can, I can see you are doing what God wants you to do with what he gave you. My intention wasn't to say that you didn't, or what you were seeking was wrong. I'm sure many more jobs will come of it, There is a reason he gives you jobs in other fields of work even if you can't see it now, God does have his reasons. Maybe he is simply allowing you to build on the other talents he already gave you, or maybe there's someone whose life he wants you to touch. I don't think any of us can say for sure what his reasons are, just know that he never does anything without a reason. Just keep praying about it, be patient and he will show you his reasons in his time. I will be praying he opens new doors for you soon.

i wonder what u believe your MINISTRY calling is within the church or if u know..God can work on growing u up in this in ANY environment.

What are youre spiritual giftings through the Holy Spirit?

or: how do you see yourself ministring to others in or outside of the church eg would you seek a word for them/interceed / pray for healing/search the scriptures to assist their understanding etc, etc

Thank you lambslove and graftmein for your understanding and encouragement.

debs - I thought my calling was to use my web and marketing / communication skills to help churches and ministries harness the new technology - for the glory of God and the expansion of the Kingdom.

I wanted to help churches use web technology to solve their communication problem - and believe me there is one in most churches ;)

They could streamline operations and reduce costs using the web as well. How many times does a church secretary have to stop typing to answer phone questions about phone numbers, church history, resource scheduling, times and dates for events, etc. This should all be online.

Then, I would like to help pastors and teachers put their messages into graphical form and use the web to spread the gospel.

My gifts are leadership, administration, prophecy, shepherding, teaching, and creative communication. My skills are marketing, management, communication, public speaking, writing, graphics, computers, network administration, webmaster, etc.

My passions are leading, teaching, organizing, creating order out of chaos...  and for seeing souls saved, though I am not personally a good evangelist...

In the past I have had seasons of exercising the gifts of leaderhsip, prophecy and intercessory prayer, as in leading wednesday night prayer meetings, healing prayers, receiving words of wisdom or knowledge so that I knew how to pray for somebody or counsel them, witness to them, etc...  But that has gone dry for now... maybe due to overwork.

May God bless each of you.

Thanks for the prayers, and please, keep them coming...

hey, sounds like Gods closing stuff down so u can spend more time with Him...sort of like Elijah at the Brook resting, allowing Him to feed u, refocussing and getting new vision so He can take u to the 'next phase'. Im not sure completely but perhaps drop the church 'doing-stuff' thing (just more pressure) and spend time resting in Him and taking time out with Him until He leads u out again (which reminds me of the Isralites, Some times the cloud in the desert would stay in one place for days or weeks before His glory led them on again)...hope this helps in some way..be blessed always, debs
