Well, I don't think you should let your babies sleep with poopy in their diapers, unless they'll only be sleeping for like 10 minutes or so. Not trying to be rude or anything, but how would you feel having to sleep with poop in your pants and then wake up with a bad rash? I think it's worth a try to get them back to sleep rather than let them sit in poopy. Especially at that young of an age, because their bottoms are more sensitive.

I know with my daughter, if I woke her, that was it. She would not go back to sleep and she would be terribly irritable. Fortunately this did not happen that often but I would let her sleep in it. I wouldn't let her sleep hours but enough so that she'd be rested. I'd then change her immediately and put on diaper cream or lansinoh cream whether she looked like she needed it or not.

I think it really depends on the child. With my son, I'd wake him up, change him and he'd go back to sleep but that just wasn't an option with my daughter and, believe me, she was much happier with sleeping.

my kids have very sensitive skin so I learned real quick, at each diaper change, cover them with zinc oxide...then if they do poop while sleeping its will give them pretty good protection...I needed my sleep too so it gave me enough peace to get a bit of a rest.

The only real rule I remember about having a baby or more than one baby is:

SLEEP WHEN THEY SLEEP.

I hope you are sleeping when they are...and no excuses, we've all said "if I don't do laundry or dishes or mopping or whatever while they are sleeping, it'll never get done....it will and it does, and if you are rested, the babies and DH are much easier to deal with.

God Bless you and those precious little ones!

...I can't imagine having 2 at the same time...what a huge blessing from the Lord!

I'm mom of two 5-wk-olds. In the last five minutes they both woke up, pooped, and went back to sleep. It's not time for them to get up yet, but if I change them now they would not go back to sleep. What would you do?

I have twin girls. When they were newborns, they wouldn't sleep in their cribs at all for the first three weeks. After that they started doing better and were sleeping through the night by about six weeks. Most of the time, I would try to keep them sleeping as long as possible. I wouldn't have known if they had poopy diapers unless I went into their room to check on them and it smelled bad. My opinion is that if it doesn't bother them, it's fine to let them sleep. If they wake up and cry or need to be fed, then change them. As someone else suggested, putting diaper-rash ointment on their skin before they go to bed might help. On the other hand, if you are breastfeeding, leaving them in dirty diapers for very long could be a problem. My babies sometimes had huge blowouts that leaked all over if I didn't change them immediately.

I would try letting them get back to sleep and then when they are in a sound sleep change them without waking them up, I've changed all mine without them waking if you can do it at the right time....if not play it by ear if they really need thier sleep let them get it and notice how badly it bothered thier bottoms, sometimes thier sleep is more important and sometimes thier little bottoms will hurt if they do, just takes trail and error

I always changed my kids. When they're that small they tend to get irritated much quicker if left dirty. You just need to practice the quietest, quickest diaper change. My pediatrician used to tell me to leave the light off, DO NOT talk or smile at the baby (that is SO hard but necessary so they don't think it's playtime), and do it as quickly, and gently as possible.
