Would you date a former homosexual?

Would you date a formerly gay man or woman?

  • Definitely. God can heal and change everything.

  • Possibly, if I can be sure they are 100% over it and have no STDs.

  • I wouldn't rule one out but it would not be my first choice.

  • No. I would not be able to get past that, no matter what.

  • Not sure/no opinion/undecided.

Probably not, to be perfectly honest. I am almost one hundred sure that in the back of my mind, I would be paranoid that they'd leave me for a man. While they not be true, I KKOW I would think it.

my thoughts exactly

What are all of your thoughts on dating a person who has come out of the gay lifestyle? Could you do it, or would you just not be able to get past where they came from?

If no STDs, yes I would. You have three polls going why all these questions?
I am asking "all these questions" because they are real situations that exist and that we do encounter. We will encounter, eventually, in the Christian world, ex-gays who have been delivered from that lifestyle. I wanted to know what you all think.

The STD comment is a little odd. You can get just as many, just as easily having sex with random partners. Is it assumed that a homosexual has had sex, even once? Hmmm...

Very true, but there is some validity in the concern. I did some research on AIDS rates in the US a few years ago, and the rate for homosexual men is significantly higher than for heterosexual men. Something like 5% vs 0.2% (obviously we're not talking ultra-precise here, since there's no definite way to tell what percentage of the population is gay).

Part of that I think is because the homosexual community is both very small and highly promiscuous.

I meant someone who was actually practicing the lifestyle at one time. You certainly are generally right about STDs, but certain illnesses, such as HIV and syphilis, are especially prevalent in high-risk gay populations in urban centers.

Probably not. There was a girl I knew who was a former lesbian. When I found out she had a crush on me, I just couldn't bring myself to entertain the possibility of dating her. I'm not sure why.
Perhaps you can send her my way...? ;)

I would not date a 'turned' person, mainly because its pretty much impossible. People cannot be turned straight! Those who say they are now straight are only decieving themselves because of pain and heartache. Or are simply saying it because of the pressures put on by christians and the church!

I know that from my gay friends how much of a struggle the 'straight-world' puts on gay people and to say that your straight when your not is an easy way out.

I cannot believe that someone can go against every emotion in their body and 'turn' themselves straight. Sorry but I don't!

So, you don't believe in the regenerative, transformative power of the Holy Spirit?

Yea of course I do. But God does not change the very make-up of the person, he doesnt go back on what he created. After all what he creates is perfect. Your sexuality is not just an illness that can be cured, it is part of you!
Evidence for your claim? Does God also design certain people to have a philandering sexuality?
