My first suggestion would be to begin researching the continent. www.JoshuaProject.net would be a good place to start, as would the book Operation World.

My second suggestion would be to take the class "Perspectives on the World Christian Movement." Find a class near you at www.Perspectives.org. This will change your life if you aren't interested in missions, and if you are it will lay a very strong foundation for going and for sending.

Aids is a very significant problem in Africa, and Urbana 06 (www.Urbana.org) has an emphasis on this problem this year at their conference. It is THE missions conference to go to, historically. I'll likely be there manning a booth in their enormous exhibit hall.

Fourthly, become involved in your church or local congregation and their missions outreach. Perhaps you can begin corresponding with a missionary in a country of Africa you're interested in. This could lead to a short-term mission trip to get a better grasp on the cultures and needs, and how your and your wife's gifts and desires fit with that.

I would suggest to begin with the Perspectives class this fall, if you can find one there (call 626-398-2126 to see if there is a Fall class near you. There is a Spring class at Bethleham Baptist in Minneapolis, John Piper's church). And begin involvement with your local church and outreaches--see if there are African refugees or int'l students you can connect with and befriend--as soon as possible also.

Great Advice ElElohe!

I know some brothers down in Nigeria. I have been in contact with them for 3 years now. They were going to come join us up here in the middle east but were unable to come.

They focus mainly on evangelism. Neat guys. I would be glad to pass on their email address to you via PM if you wish.

The need is great, i just returned from Zambia, South Africa & Kenya. Spent just over 10 weeks there in the last year (three trips total)
The opportunity to serve is huge, short term and long term.
Continue to search, and allow your hearts to be tugged!
