I posted this in the guys teen forum too.

Ok heres the thing.

Before I even start I know you guys are gonna HATE this! Or argue it til you are blue in the face. But maybe one or two will see what I see and agree(would be nice:p)


Ok heres the logic. Almost any passage in the Bible has to be taken in context, yes? Ok.

Well here is the verse I want to discuss, in context.

Matthew 5 said:
Adultery

27"You have heard that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.'[e] 28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.

The context is adultery. The whole of this short passage is about adultery. Jesus is talking about lust and mentions if your eye offends you(you look at something and dwell on it to the point of lust) you should pluck it out.

He does not change his train of thought. He says, 'And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.'

So this is Jesus linking the 'right hand' to lust and adultery. Is there a tiny possiblity that he was thinking on touching yourself at this time? (excuse the graphicness of it please) For a right-handed person, you do everytihng with your right hand. So what can you do, sexually and regards to lust, with your 'right hand'?!

If this is so, then notice one crutial word in that sentence, 'SIN'. If this is right then this is proof that touching yourself is a sin.

Take it as you will. I am interested to see replies.

be on this computer.

Couldn't type,
Couldn't see the screen
Couldn't hear the TV
Couldn't walk

Matter of fact I wouldn't be able to think.


I would be in quite a fix. Why I wouldn't even be able to stand up at the toilet.


I wrote a term paper on this and I think it was prejudice. I think I put to much of my feeling into it.



Anyways this is something that every young person thinks about.



I guess I'm not the one to talk about this.

Good try but not right and it’s important to understand what Christ was saying here or we loose a huge piece of understanding Christianity.

You are taking the passages out of the whole context. You have to think about who he is addressing and why. Jesus was making a point about salvation and the commandments. He was talking to Jews who felt that the law and following the law was all that was needed for Gods grace and salvation. His point was that you can’t follow the law. You need a savor to even get close. It is not enough to simply obey the “law”. (Jewish Law, the 10 commandments.) You have to change your heart and to do that you need a savior. You need to treat sin as seriously as if you had to cut off a piece of your own body.

He is not saying cut off your hands and pluck out your eye so you will not touch. That’s nothing more than a commandment. He already knows that we are sinners. He wants to illustrate to us that we are sinners and that is what the passage is trying to say.

This subject of sin and masturbation is an old one and really a moot point when it comes to ones salvation. Everyone one seems to want to know where the legal line is when it comes to obeying God. Well, that’s the real problem and that’s the very problem Jesus was addressing with those very words. Our salvation does not rest with us simply following the commandments. It’s about our relationship with Christ and what’s in our hearts.

I think you are reading far too much into it. Jesus is talking about lust here, not physical sex. He is talking about filling your mind with fantasies (as opposed to healthy, normal sexual desires) that could lead to evil. The cutting off of the hand is figurative. It simply means to get rid of your sin. Even a person with no right hand or with no eye can lust after someone or something.

Only you can decide for yourself if masturbation is a sin. Others can give their opinions, and we can all argue our stand on it, but it is one of those things that is left up to individual conviction. You can't decide for another person if masturbating is a sin, you can only decide how God speaks to your own heart.

I don't remember posting anything about telling people it was a sin. The title of the post is a question.

Also by the logic I use, if you are not going to count everything in the Bible as metaphorical, then it would class it as a sin.

I think there is too much of a possibilty for people to ignore.

So many Christians argue something til their blue in the face to try and justify their actions. If there is a possibility of it being a sin it is worth staying away from!

I wonder if that is cultural. I wondered aobut that but decided, since Jesus often talks to 'men' and never really talks with reference to women. It is likely that he uses that as a way of making something simpler and he meant it to be reflected on both the left handed and right handed^_^

Those verses have absolutley nothing to do with masturbation.

Jesus was addressing the pharisees who stressed external righteousness - doing the right things the right way. Jesus was paroding the absurdity of their values. What Jesus was saying was "If righteousness is something external, who don't you just cut off your hands or take out your eyes. Then you would be incapable of sin." Jesus was very good at using his oppenents' agruements against them.

There's no True Master in masturbation .

Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

Clearly , Jesus is issuing a strong warning against human beings continuing in sin : stating quite plainly that such will lead to our own permanent destruction .

Hence , if the only way for us to cease from the practice of sinning against God is to take an outrageously extreme step - even that would be preferable to not discontinuing our sinful practices ( whatever they may be ).

But , by all means possible , let us seek a deliverance (from that which defiles us ) , which does not require such drastic measures .

Futhermore , what Jesus is saying by extension - is that all who fail to find the grace to repent , and do consequently wind up in hell / the lake of fire , will sorely wish they would have done something - anything at all ! Which would have convinced their rebellious nature to accept the gracious death of being crucified with Christ . For these current bodies can be resurrected as whole and new ... but there is no resurrection from the lake of fire , which is the second death , which is the death of the soul , which is the death of one's individuality , as one created to be in God's own image.


Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years. <-----> Revelation 20:6

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. <-----> Revelation 20:14

He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

There are other Scriptural ties which link masturbation to sinfulness .

The Blood of Christ was never meant to be used as a justification for continuing in sin . It is meant to cover our past sins and work together with faith and love to mortify us from continuing in sin , so that we can serve God acceptably in the sanctification of holiness.


Furthermore , it is only by lifting up and beholding the True Standard which Christ has set forth , that we can accurately examine and recognize our spiritual condition . Those who lift not up His Standard , can easily think they are something , while they are yet nothing ; with regards to The Kingdom of God .

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.

I FEEL touching yourself IS WRONG. for this act to be carried out to the satisfaction of the individual concerned, male or female, the imagery of the mind has to dwell on that which is filthy. touching yourself is one of the reason's inappropriate contentography is so successful. magazines filled with hard-core sex acts provide a picturesque setting for the completion of the touching yourself act. the scenario always becomes worse and worse because you have to go deeper to get the fulfillment of being turned on.
our body is the temple of God, the temple of the Holy Ghost~1 Corinthians 3v16,17; 6v19,20
anything that tends to pervert the human body is wrong, sinful and wicked. and the same goes for oral sex.........

since you are questioning it out loud and very bravely, you sound like conviction is upon you about this. that's good and spiritually growing. I hope you obey and forbid to set sexual wickedness before your eyes but turn away quickly......

advertisements constantly bombard the public with subliminal messages in just about all ads. what your eyes don't see, your conscience mind picks up. for instance, in alchohol ads the word sex is written so suddle on ice cubes, or in hair, it can be anywhere on the page. I pick up it all the time. you can't if you don't know about it though.

touching yourself is essentially selfish.

You are taking your God-given sex drive created to share with your marriage partner and just satisfying yourself with a quick fix.

It is a failed stewardship of the gift of God.

Of course we all are tempted with sexual lust....as well as the lust of the eyes(shopping lol). gluttony(super-sizing) all I am saying that it is sinful...and God would rather us choose not to do those things,because they are not Godly desires, but worldly. And you won't explode if you don't.
Though it is a battle everyday...we are able to choose not to.
when I think of Jesus the Son of Man and our deisre to be like him...that dosen't enter the picture.

1Cr 10:13There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God [is] faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear [it].

hmmm...wonder if he was talking about masturbation here....as a way of escape...not likely, but I'ts possible for those who choose to do it...to use this scripture in their favor.;)

The Bible also says its a shame for a man to spill his sperm in the ground-why? because children are an heritage unto the Lord, very precious.God also gave it to be pleasurable for husband and wife. it may not be the act itself so much as it is the thoughts that enter in ones mind and then the dwelling on it brings on the self-hand love. when you walk in the spirit, you won't fulfill the lust in the flesh. in fact, the Holy Spirit takes away these desires of the flesh when you understand the complete work of the cross. I would rather have Holy Spirit conviction than to continue any ungodly behavior that is offensive to God. when he takes the desires out you simply cannot go back to them as I am a witness. and he is still doing a work in me.:prayer:

People are coming across with anger here. This is not good witnessing.

Masturbation is not a God-given thing. It is a SIN.
Do the boy a favour and tell him the truth. He deserves that.
Did Adam touch? ........ we will never know. Eve was given to him because he was lonely.

Masturbation is a sexual sin. Whether married or not, we should not do it.

Age doesnt come into it either. It may be one of the hardest temptations known to man, I guess thats why its so hard for us to get into heaven.
Man is supposed to think about sex every 20 minutes. I personally cant take that in.
Next time someone masturbates, look up. Someone might be looking down on you.

I also thought that we were only able to have sex with a married partner. Masturbation on your own is surely a sin. Its fine to touch with your partner I am sure, though its not for me .....lol.
