Hello:wave:

Are these two prophets the same person? The use a similar phrase in ther prophecies and the name means alomst the same?

Micah 1:2

2 Hear, O peoples, all of you,
listen, O earth and all who are in it,

1 Kings 22:

28 Micaiah declared, "If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me." Then he added, "Mark my words, all you people!"

They both also said they were the only prophet that heard from God:

1 Kings 22:

23 "So now the LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouths of all these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you."

Micah 3:

7 The seers will be ashamed
and the diviners disgraced.
They will all cover their faces
because there is no answer from God."
8 But as for me, I am filled with power,
with the Spirit of the LORD,
and with justice and might,

What do you think?

A quick study seems to indicate that they have two different fathers, but not conclusive. It turns out there is only one Michaia mentioned, but numerous Micahs or variations on that name.

Thanks for the reply:)

I have a Tanakh old testament and the footnotes say that some rabbis think they are one and the same.

But they have different fathers?

Mikah 1:1 said:
The word of Yahweh that came to Mikah of Moresheth in the days of Yotham, Ahaz, Hizqiyah, sovereigns of Yehudah, which he saw concerning Shomeron and Yerushalayim.

Lismore, let's count the countable years between 1 Kings 22 and the reign of Hezekiah, and see if this relates a reasonable life span for the prophet.

1 Kings 22:51 said:
Ahazyahu son of Ahab began to reign over Yisra'el in Shomeron in the seventeenth year of Yehoshaphat sovereign of Yehudah, and reigned two years over Yisra'el.

2 Kings 3:1 said:
And Yehoram son of Ahab begain to reign of Yira'el at Shomeron in the eighteenth year of Yehoshaphat sovereign of Yehudah, and reigned twelve years.

You might say that this is a current total of 14 years, but Yehoram begins his reign merely in the next year that Ahazyahu begins his, so I think it is safe to conclude that Ahazyahu's reign was rounded up. As a side note, let us not get this guy confused with the son of Yehoshaphat, who is the king of Judah and has the same name. Total: 13 countable years.

Then in chapter 9 we read of Yehoram's assassination by Yehu. In chapter 10 we read about Yehu kicking all kinds of tail all over the place, and usurped the reign. Maybe it is uncertain if there are any uncounted years in chapter 10, but we do know this much:

2 Kings 10:36 said:
And the days that Yehu reigned over Yisra'el in Shomeron were twenty-eight years.

41 countable years.

2 Kings 13:1 said:
In the twenty-third year of Yo'ash son of Ahazyahu, sovereign of Yehudah, Yeho'ahaz son of Yehu began to reign over Yisra'el in Shomeron, and reigned seventeen years.

58 countable years.

2 Kings 13:10 said:
In the 37th year of Yo'ash sovereign of Yehudah, Yeho'ash son of Yeho'ahaz began to reign over Yisra'el in Shomeron, 16 years.

I really don't know how they get 17 years out of from year 23 to year 37. That part doesn't make a lot of sense. Looks more like 14 years to me...but well...you can call it 71 years if you wish, or

74 countable years. Starting to look a little bleak, eh?

2 Kings 14:23 said:
In the 15th year of Amatsyahu son of Yo'ash, the sovereign of Yehudah, Yarob'am son of Yo'ash, the sovereign of Yisra'el, began to reign in Shomeron, and reigned 41 years.

Ok ok ok. Do we really have to go any further? Counting conservatively, that's over 100 years, and we don't meet up with Jotham until the 15th chapter. Even if the prophet prophecied to Ahab in diapers and then prophecied to Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah in depends, he'd still have to be older than the guiness record.

Nice analysis, Hog Washer!

I always wanted to do a chart of kings and prophets from Kings, Chronicles and ALL the prophets! Maybe I could induce you to do it instead of me and then to publish your results! :D

Lismore, I have to say that I have been (looks like sloppily) equating the two! I'll fix that next time!
