Do you save clothes your kids outgrow?
Do you donate them?

My boys are older. I gave their clothes away as soon as they couldn't fit them anymore. No point of keeping them and cramming them into a box if I can't see them anymore. There are only a couple of special outfits I have kept. The ones they came home in and that's it.

My BIL took the clothes his 3 babies came home from the hospital in and framed them in shadow box frames. When each of the kids had their first baby he gave them their shadow box. A nice tradition and a nice touch to the nursery.

I have a hand-me-down chain with a couple of friends, so anything still usable has been passed on! I've saved her important outfits to make into a quilt for her.

If I were you, I'd hang on to them for now until you find out the sex of this next baby! I probably would have hung onto Brea's if there was a chance of me getting pregnant in the next year or two!

I've got boxes of Andie's old clothes....sometime I'm gonna get my act together so I can sell them on Ebay...

Have you tried Overstock Auctions? I've found that used clothes sell better there.

I still have most of DD's clothes. I have sold some at Overstock and eBay. I'm going to go throught them since I know I'm having a boy now and give some to my cousin's grandbaby (poor family) and hopefully sell the rest on Overstock IF I can find the time to list them. :sigh:

As for maternity clothes I don't have very many and most are borrowed from my SIL. I'll return them and give the rest away when I'm done.

Mine wore hand me downs from one another, but when these were out grown I donated them to Good Will.
That's what we do too. There is a big gap between our boys - 4 years between each - and they are all built differently. We did keep the expensive Levi jeans that we bought for son #1 when he was 4, for son #2. Primarily, this was because son #1 grew out of the jeans within about a month, and they were barely used. So, #2 son got good use from those jeans three years later, but once he had grown out of them, we put them in the goodwill bag. They were still in good enough condition to wear, but #3 son was then only 1, and we could not envisage keeping these jeans for another 3 years!

Generally, our thinking is that once something is gently worn, we will pass it on to a child that needs it NOW (through Goodwill), rather than keeping, say, a t-shirt for 4 years, when the next child may not even want to wear it, or it may not fit him right.

Yup I kept all of his clothes and will use them as many times as I have boys.... so perhaps never again, who knows? I love hand me downs, some of his are hand me downs to begin with because I got them at garage sales. Little ones don't care if they are used, and they only get the attitude that you give to them.... so if you teach them that hand me downs are great, they won't whine about them. At least that's worked for some families I know, even the oldest gets hand me downs from other families.

:)

We had a ton because we had several people hand us down clothes. We saved enough for our next kids and got rid of the rest. Now that we're done having kids we'll give our clothes to a friend who is having a boy in May.

This is a good idea. :) When we have older kids we will keep shuffling them too... but since all we have is baby clothes and they hardly get worn before they grow out of them I'm going to hang onto those.

I buy good quality stuff on purpose so I can pass it down. I have several boxes of "core" clothes. :)

I save the best stuff and donate the rest. The last couple of years I've donated it to our LLL yard sale that we have every year as a fundraising event.

I've sold some on eBay, sold some in yard sales, donated a lot to Good Will, and shared with friends. And I still have a ton of stuff. Mainly because people keep giving us stuff, lol...and I love clothes so I always take them.

I hardly ever by new clothes for my girls...and if I do it's good quality specialty stuff...like we always buy them nice Easter dresses and Christmas outfits...a new pair of PJs. Stuff like that. So they wear free stuff people have given us, stuff I've bought at yard sales, and boxed lots of clothes that I've bought on eBay.

LOL, so I guess add my girls to the list of kids that wear hand me downs. Mainly because there are few things I love more than getting a great deal. They don't care, they're really cute, name brand clothes, and they're new to them...they're happy campers.

All my maternity clothes I gave to my cousin the first week I was home with Lilly. She was pregnant and in great need of maternity clothes. As for her clothes I gave three garbage bags full away when she was a couple months old for some katrina victims that were here(I kept the outfits that meant the most to me). I wanted to keep them...but, those people were in greater need and there was one woman in particular that was going to give birth to a baby girl anyday. She needed them more. After that if there is clothes that are given to me that I wouldn't let a little girl wear I donate it(you will be surprised at what some novelty children's clothes say) or I donate clothes that have not worked out for us. They may fit terrible or maybe it was too hard to change a diaper in...that kind of thing. The rest I have saved. So about three months up I have saved. I also have stuff packed up that was out of season when given to her that she never wore. Actually there are alot of clothes that she never even wore cause we had so many given to us. I don't mind if they are hand me downs...I love thrift stores and yard sales...so that doesn't bother me. Even now when I go if I see something in boys or girls I like and its under a 1.00 I may buy it for future children. So all and all yep we save her clothes for our future babies and I save alot just for her when she gets older. I put all the ones I save for her in a re-sealable plastic box. All other goes in storage in den closet in bags. One great thing about clothes and children...they never spoil and a baby never knows what is in style(which any baby outfits are usually too cute anyway)...that's why I have bought all the way in advance til she is like four. I just keep them packed up.

We hand me down, a friend of mine has a boy younger and older than my nephew, so we get her older boy's cloths for my nephew, my nephew's cloths to her younger boy etc

He gets enough new stuff.

In the beginning # 2 WILL NOT care if they are in hand me downs, worry about that in 4-5 years.
