Both of these games are going to be big this/next year and I was wondering,

"Which game do you think will be better?"

IMO, being an Everquest "fan boi", EQ II will be better. The dev team seems to be putting a lot of emphasis on content (I've heard on their forums that WoW quests are bland), I enjoy the graphics more (not saying that WoW's are bad, they're just not my style), I like the lore of Norrath better than that of Lorderon and Azeroth (especially that of the Iksar. All hail Rile!), and it seems like there will be more room for thoughtful expansion in EQ II than in WoW (continents to rediscover and all those planes of existance to break back into). Also, WoW seems like it would function much better as a PvP oriented game and yet from everything I've heard there will be none at release. That boggles my mind; the would probably be a lot better in a PvP environment.

For people who wish to read up on the two:

World of Warcraft:

www.worldofwarcraft.com

EverQuest II:

::EDIT:: This was meant to be a poll but I messed up  . So just post your response

I'm looking more forward to WoW. It looks much more interesting. I've played EQ since it released and I have a few friends who've played as long as I have that are in the WoW beta. They're opinions are pretty much unanimous that it's going to be putting a serious dent in the subscriber base of Sony Online Entertainment.

No other MMORPG has held my interest like EQ has, but I don't think EQ2 is going to have what it takes to make me switch over from WoW. If I did get the bug to play a Sony game again, I'd probably just go back to plain old EQ.

And where are you reading that there won't be PvP in WoW? It'll be there. Why would there be a distinct seperation between the Alliance and Horde if there wasn't PvP? Here's a pretty good write-up on WoW.

my problem with EQ is its too ez and there is an expansion like every other day.... were as WOW not only having an most exactlent story line.. also has some totally unheard of ideas in an MMRPG. Also WoW being a blizzard game can not stink... when has blizzard ever made a bad game ??? Yes right now the quest are bland.. because this is a new area for them and that is why they have the beta testers (alot of vertian DoAC and EQ players from what i hear) to help them spice it up for the vets, and yet keep it easy for any new MMRPG to come in and enjoy.

Just my 2 cents.

From their FAQ: "We know that the player vs. player (PvP) option is very important to many gamers. Therefore, we plan to incorporate a form of player conflict into the World of Warcraft... Announcements regarding PvP options in the World of Warcraft will be announced in the months ahead."

This says to me that there won't be any PvP at release, since it is still on their FAQ and the game is in Beta

EQII has Qeynos vs. Freeport and yet no PvP.

Heyas,

Recovering MMORPG addict here, heh. I was *totally* hooked on EQ. Played Shadowbane & DAOC, too. By the time I finally put down Shadowbane, online gaming had become a sin to me (note: to ME, I don't judge others...like Paul said, if meats a sin to ya, don't eat it /bonk). It was eating up WAY to many hours out of each day/week/month of my life & I had to just go cold turkey.

God delivered me from alcoholism 5 years ago, so I didnt go through any withdraws from booze (after 15 years of addiction), but I had to walk through the withdraws from a meth habit, and also quit smoking pot, with God's help. But...I'm telling you the truth, MMORPGs were HARDER to kick for me, than meth! Not exagerating at all...I had a harder time putting my flesh under in when it came to MMORPGs than I did not cutting up a line of crystal & snorting it.

Before I digress too much, I wanted to say this; I had to quit playing online games cause of the time they were eating up from my life...but something that really bothered me (and honestly helped me make the decision to quit playing), was the fact that evil is *glorified* by online gamers, to a sickening degree. I talked about this with some of my fellow gamers who were saved & got responces from "Yeah, I agree" to "****, you're a fanatic". Well....yeah, I AM a zealot, I'll admit that much (God delivers ya from a 15 year drinking problem & you tend to like Him a bit)...but I was wondering if that aspect of gaming ever bother you guys?

I know, I know..."its just a game" & all that...but evil is evil, period. Its not something to be played with & chuckled about, IMHO, especially for a Child of God (in whom no darkness is found). "What fellowship does light have with darkness?"

Please dont construe this the wrong way...I'm not looking to condemn any of you guys at ALL, it was just something I had to walk away from (MMORPGs, that is)...I'm just curious about your opinions on the evil being glorified thing. I'm also kinda curious how in the world you manage to keep those games from gobbling up your life, like they did to me, heh. I have a life & interests outside of online stuff & always have, but when I played those games, it was like I would have gladly just locked my door & played till the rapture.

Ok, /ramble off.

Oh and they're going to be in beta for a while. One of the devs came out and said that they were looking at probably 5+ more months of testing. But there will be PvP at release. And from the article I posted, it actually sounds interesting enough to participate in.

Oh I see, he assumed blizzard was a company that released incomplete games that were bad because of short betas. Bad games, yes. Bad implimentation? Not yet.

i am going for WoW before eq2, eq2 might have some good things in it, but i just have this feeling its gonna be a total ripoff of a bunch of other games just like eq1 has become lately, eh, im stuck on lineage2 atm, soo fun
To be fair, WoW is ripping off quite a bit of stuff from other MMORPG's. I just think Blizzard has a knack for putting their own spin on certain well established concepts and making them addictively fun.

It doesn't bother me at all that MMO's borrow from eachother. I think EQ's LDoN expansion was probably the best they've ever done. And all they did was get in on the "Instanced Dungeon" thing that other games like Anarchy Online have been doing for a long time. As long as its fun, borrow away imo.
