On Helo's point, I believe we shouldn't lose touch with reality. Video games are "games" and should be treated as such, that I agree. On the other note, games have an influence on us, good or bad. I'm an old school gamer and a devote Christian. I've played all sorts of games and I still do. When playing "Guild Wars" I noticed a trend such as guilds being formed called, "Christian Guild" or "Soldiers for Christ." It was sad to see sooo many Christians like myself having to make clans or guilds for Christians. I love video games and I always will but Guild Wars doesn't send a good message for Christians no matter how many guilds you make with the Lord's name or Christianity attached to it. Guild Wars was built by pagans and such as elementalists, necromancers, gods etc, within the game, it just annoys me. None the less, I still play games, I learn from them and I do more to develop quality Christian based games than complain. The truth is that I do believe we lack growth in quality development of our games and this is why most of us run to secular based games (you have to admit, they are fun).
I am currently on strike from playing a lot of secular games. I mean, I would just be content with being the hero that kills the dark wizard. Now a days, the hero IS the dark wizard! Geez
I am an adult so I am not easily influenced by what I hear, read or play, but it doesn't remove the fact that I am influenced by it. I have spent years in learning and studying video game development. I ran my own gaming clan with over 250 members and my first online game I developed with over 370 members. After seeing the decline in quality "family friendly" gaming, I had to close my site down. I mean, you can't control what people want to play. The most you can do is give them a choice. I started learning how to develop games a few years ago. I started programing in php which made it easier to develop turn page text/image type of games. I simply incorporated all the simple elements Ive learned over the years to make a game fun while still giving a positive Christian message.
Platinum Breakthrough is the first of many games to come. This is ministry more than anything else. I realize no one has to play these games no matter how good my intent. I know that I can only present a choice and the choice must be a good one, therefore I do my best to make quality games. I pray that I continue to gain support and others support such efforts. I also thank everyone who has shown me support and are playing the game. It may not look like much but trust me the game is very fun once you give it a chance.
I am developing another online game with the same engine but it will be more like World of War Craft, turn page/image/text based but all Christian elements (dont ask me how its going to be done, just trust that it will be a woot). I am also working on an offline version of the same game. The offline version will be a bit like "Tales of Symphonia." These versions wont be complete until this years end but it would be worth the wait if I receive continued support from this current game.
I love you all in Christ.
