We met and married in Manhattan though neither of us was from there. My wife lived therefor 3 years and I was there with my ship in the Navy for a week. Our first honeymooon was in the Poconos in Pensylvania, snowy and romantic.
After we were married I deployed on a North Atlantic cruise. Several months into the cruise, my bride flew to England to meet me to have a second honeymoon in London.
While stationed in Virginia, we later drove to the Shanendoah valley and toured the caverns there.
I grew up in Florida and took me Mrs. to the good spots (not just the tourist traps) in St. Pete, Weekiwachi, and Daytona (I have yet to take her to the Everglades, the air boat ride and Indian villages are a must see).
Living in Texas and on the Left Coast for years we've taken in the various sites and tours from hot air balooning in San Diego to pontooning down the Riverwalk in San Antonio. We caught one of the last train tours to go from Corpus Christi to Nuevo Laredo. We took another train and bus tour through the wine country of Baja. We hope to do the Copper Canyon train ride someday as well as what is left of the great Canadian trainride.
We flew to Kuai (sp?) for a third (or fifteenth, lost count) honeymoon before the huricane hit there in '92 or '93. It was paradise.
We went to Vancouver / Victoria an absolute must see! Vancouver is a very clean city nestled in virgin forest lands ferry rides to islands and the Buchard gardens all the flowers and colors! Victoria was a quaint walking town very colonial looking.
Watched the taping of an Episode of "Becker" in LA which was quite an experience.
Honeymoon number *** ? was a trip to Colorado Springs and eventually Vail (once the white-out conditions allowed us to travel out of Col. Spr.). Manitou Springs was more interesting to me than Pike's Peak. In Vail we cross country skiied... my first and last time of doing all that.
We adored Prescott / Sodona.
Over the years we've cannoed, bicycled, toured, trekked, etc. mostly due to my wife being quite the go-getter and insistant I not sit around on my fanny. I usually drug mt heels at first but always always enjoyed every adventure.
On the horizon, God willing, will be an Alaska cruise, the Mexican Riviera, the train tours I mentioned, Banff / Lake Louise. I hear Montana is beautiful, and we would like to stay at Little Palm island. I promised to take my wife to the Grand Canyon (which we somehow managed to by pass living so close to it) and Niagara Falls (both of which I saw as a child).
Before we met we both toured Europe. I did several ports of call in Africa and the Middle East in 1979 and 1980 (at the time the Iran hostage crisis occurred). Neither of us desires to go back to these places or to tour them together. Seen it... is our feeling.
While I was either working or for one reason or other did not want to go, my wife hang tandum glided, tandum sky dived, flew in a biplane, and took many Southern Califonia tours. Before we met, she interviewed Marine tank operators for a tv talkshow she hosted in Amarillo and got to drive the tank. She also tandum flew a glider in those days.
In Fort Worth she took the Texas Speedway tour and got to ride in a van on the track. We later attended a race there and the thrill of being there in person is beyond belief.
We did do the Reagan, Nixon (who was more of a statesman than the world realizes), and LBJ Presidential libraries which are a must see. We want to see JFK, and Truman libraries.
In East Texas there was a train we took to see the Dogwoods in bloom around Palestine.
We have talked about a trip to San Francisco and Napa Valley. And we want to take in a pro football game at the stadium (we have seen several Baseball games at stadiums and one at the Park in Arlington, Texas. Maybe we can catch the Cowboys in their new Stadium when it is built.
