How long were you engaged?

We were engaged for about a year & a half and have now been married for almost a year & a half... actually, tomorrow (Monday) is the 3 year anniversary of our engagement

21 months ... would have been shorter but we had immigration stuff to figure out.

About 15 months - we had to wait until my wife had finished at Teacher Training College. We had been going out for about 4½ yrs when we got married.
Now married over 37 yrs so I guess I'm the veteran on these posts.

Indcidentally, today (9th Jan) is the 42nd anniversary of when we first met.

We'll be engaged 9 months when we get married (in June!) I wouldn't want it to be any longer!

We never really were "engaged". There was no proposal or specific moment when we got engaged. From the day we first told each other we loved each other, we just always talked about someday getting married. On my 30th birthday, he gave me a diamond and sapphire promise ring to symbolize his commitment to someday marry me, when the timing was right, meaning when he had finished his PhD and gotten a job. After that happened, one day he said, "Okay, we should start planning the wedding."

So, I don't know if I should say we got engaged the first time we talked about marriage, or the day he gave me the promise ring, or the day he told me to book the church for the wedding! If it's the first, then we were engaged for 2 1/2 years. If it's the second, we were engaged for one year and one month. If it's the third, we were engaged for about 6 months. I guess it makes the most sense to say we were engaged for 6 months, since that's how long we had to plan the wedding.

We met July 4, 1980. We wed December 25, 1980.

We were engaged about 3 1/2 months before the wedding.

Interesting all the shorter engagement periods on here...seems to work out fine.

9 months. And really, the only reason it took that long was because it took that long to plan the wedding.

3 years! My husband and I began dating when we were 19 so wanted to give it some time to make sure we were completely ready. We did a marriage preparation course at the church and started reading the bible together to grow in our faith before making this committment.

3 months. We were married four and a half months after our first date (engaged after 5 weeks and married three months after that, give or take a few days).

5 years.....we were not Christians for almost all of that time and toyed with the age old 'it's just a piece of paper, we know we love each other' bit. After living together for that long, we decided that it was just a piece of paper but it meant alot to us and I felt God was leading us to get married 'officially' so we did.

5 months here. We've been married 3 1/2 years, but know each other over 9 years.

1½ years...almost...
21/12 1980 - 5/6 1982.

We started dating January 22, 2000 and we got engaged in March of 2000 and Married in June of 2000. We have been Married for 5 years now!

10 days!

3 months.

Met = January 27,2004 (on computer)
Started dating = February 8, 2004 (in person)
Engaged = April 21, 2004 (my 20th birthday)
Married = July 24, 2004

And I woudn't change a thing!

2 years - I was the hold out. I just had been hurt before and wanted to be really really sure before I made a lifelong committment.
