What don't people know about you?

OK. Getting off of the singles topic for a moment, what are one or two things about you that people generally don't know?

People don't know that I love all sorts of music - mostly because I don't talk about it. I'm not the type of person who easily remembers singers' names and song titles and that sort of thing. If I were, I could probably carry on a conversation more easily on the topic.

I had a teacher once who said that people only know what you tell them about yourself. I think that's largely true, although some people can also observe things about you even if you don't tell them anything. Another way to look at it is that people can only talk with you about things you disclose in the first place.

1. I don't laugh at other people's jokes. I don't know if anyone has ever noticed that. I think it's funny & I'll smile & get a chuckle out of it but I really don't lose it when someone says something funny. The only explanation I have is that I like to make people laugh so I can't laugh at their jokes. It's hard to explain. Sometimes it does bother me because I feel bad for the person but I can't help it.

2. I'm embarassed to show my sensitive side. When I'm alone I cry at sad movies or sad songs or when I get very excited about something like my sports team winning a big game. When I'm with people, I either hold it in or I don't put myself in that situation. When I do something that would be considered very unusual by people's standards, I keep it to myself. For example, the Operation Santa Claus program. I've done this for two years & I hide the fact I'm doing it as well as the gifts I buy. I prepare the package & mail it when no one is around.

Thanks for replying, BFA! That's cool about your creative streak. :) So about the flying, does that mean you won't take a plane?
Jen, I try to avoid flying at all cost. I will drive long distances instead of flying. There have been times when I can't help it, like for work. I live in Kansas and our corporate HQ is in Georgia, so its way to far to drive. When I fly, I have to take Valium or Xanax to calm down or I will be a basketcase on the plane. Even just thinking about flying fills me with fear. Trust me , I totally hate being this way.

Where this comes from I have no clue.

I only let people see what I want them too. I keep most od my thoughts, feelings and problems to myself. I find it real hard (read imposable) to break myself of this habit(developed by my employment and disposition). At the same time, I can talk to anyone, on just about any topic and at the same time keep secrets secret.

I know what you mean, Craft. I tend to be a "listener" rather than a talker. But I've learned that people appreciate hearing others' thoughts and feelings. It helps them feel they know you or can relate to you better as a person. :)

1.) I was on medication for some form of epilepsy until I was 9 or 10 years old. I still remember the EEG. I remember them sticking all of those wires to my head. I slept through it. Apparently the EEG showed that everything was normal, so they took me off of the medication. And that was the end of it. I don't remember having seizures, but apparently I did have them.

2.) I suffer from what is probably undiagnosed Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I am especially anxious about chemicals. This past weekend at my grandmother's house I was worrying about having handled a TV remote control and then without washing my hands handling some dishes. Leaking battery acid could be on that remote control and I got it on the dishes that people eat off of! That is how my mind works. That is how my mind works almost all of the time. I literally worry myself sick. It is hard to enjoy life. :(
