I had a stroke a few months ago. Wonder what I'm being punished for.

This petty, bigoted, narrow-minded, little man has done tremendous harm to the perception of the Christian church. When I talk to people who are not believers, he and his ilk almost inevitably come up as a reason the Christian faith can't be taken seriously.

When people bring him up, just tell them you aren't trying to convince them of what he thinks. Tell them he's not quite the guy who joins the soccer team, who everybody wishes "wouldn't help." Tell them, he's more like the streaker who stops the game and makes everybody feel nauseous.

And what's our sin so bad that God has sent him????

This man needs all his medication, as afore mentioned. As well as anyone else's he can get. And maybe a strait jacket and muzzle, or duct tape, ohhh! I like duct tape.

This was a terrible thing for anyone to say, especially someone who has the power to say it to millions of people!

I can't believe any responsible person could say something like he said-it sends a horrible sense of dread and pain to those who have relatives and friends who are suffering illnesses, and is a terrible blow to anyone who is ill and using every ounce of energy to get better.

I hope Pat Robertson goes to bed tonight and realizes how horrible his comments were, and apoligises for them, and corrects them.

Dear Rev. Robertson,

I (http://www.christianforums.com/showthread.php?p=21158017&postcount=7) was very distressed to see that you have run off at the mouth once again and that you have relapsed into this terrible disease of speaking first and thinking only afterward (if at all).

Let's get one thing clear. As an orthodox Jew living in Israel & a registered Republican (I'm still a US citizen too), I value your support, and that of the evangelical Protestant community, for Israel very much. So please understand where I'm coming from.

PM Sharon's stroke is a punishment from God for implementing the Disengagement Plan? You know this? The Almighty has allowed you to glance at his account books (so to speak)?

That PM Sharon's stroke was the will of God is something that no person ought to question (What happens in this world that is not the will of God?), but why God willed that this should happen is something that is simply beyond human ken. You don't have a clue (nor can you), none of us do. You of all people should know that there are certain things that are simply beyond our human ability to grasp & that we'll never be able to figure out. Me? I look at Deuteronomy 29:28

"The secret things belong unto the Lord our God..."
,

Psalm 131:1-2

Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty; neither do I exercise myself in things too great, or in things too wonderful for me. Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother; my soul is with me like a weaned child."
,

Isaiah 55:9

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts."
,

and Job 38:2-4

Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now your loins like a man; for I will demand of you, and declare you unto Me. Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have the understanding!

whenever I feel myself getting too big for my spiritual britches. How wonderful it must be for you to live in a world in which the ways of such as God are not inscrutable but are plain and laid open to such as you to the extent that you know what He does and why. A rabbi in our old neighborhood in Jerusalem (a very soft-spoken, modest & unassuming man; maybe you could learn something from this) calls people such as yourself "God's pockets" because God is in your pocket.

Also, it is interesting that you pontificate on what my Prime Minister should do in my country from safe & faraway Virginia. I pay taxes here. I vote here. In 10 years my wife & I will have to drive our son to an IDF induction center. Ariel Sharon has spent his entire life as a soldier & warrior defending, with his blood & his life, a place you only know from books or that you may have visited on occasion. How dare you pronounce on his life like you have? Who are you to judge him? Shame on you!

Sincerely yours,

ssv

OK, let me preface this by saying that I'm not necessarily coming to Pat Robertson's defense. While his musing is a legitimate thought, considering the history of those who have attempted to divide Israel, it's not something that should have really been spoken, especially in so public a forum.

Here's what I'm angry about though:

"Iranian President Hopes Sharon Perishes"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060105/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iran_israel_sharon_1

I know this is already posted on here: http://www.christianforums.com/t2485527-president-of-iran-hopes-sharon-dies.html

However: Number of responses in this thread with people bashing Pat Robertson over his musings about whether this MIGHT BE the punishment of God for Sharon's division of the Gaza Strip et al: 26 (as of this post)
Number of responses to the thread about Iran's president hoping Sharon dies, that the Jews are "wiped off the earth", etc: 3

You be the judge. Are our priorities skewed in the things we express rage at?

EDIT: OK, I just noticed there were TWO threads about Ahmadinejad's comments, with 19 on one and 3 on the other. Actually pretty close. I have to say I wasn't surprised to see some trying to compate what Ahmadinejad said to Pat Robertson's offenses. Pretty stretchy when you consider Rev. Robertson has only spoken some of these things, and Ahmadinejad has actually acted on some of his violent statements.

You're not too familiar with Pat Robertson, are you?

I'm also hoping that I get cast in a Johnny Depp movie tomorow while I'm out shopping. That doesn't mean I think it's going to happen anytime soon, nor that I'm going to be shopping for non-terrorist 2 CT diamond 24 carrat gold earings (or any 24 carrat gold and 2CT diamond earings, for that because I'm banking on the money the movie will make. :p

Perhaps a CEO within the production company that produces Pat Robertson programs will realize what is going on and pick helping others over money. That's been known to happen.

NORFOLK, Va. - Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Thursday that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine punishment for "dividing God's land
It's more likely God's punishment for being 77 years old and fatter than a town dog.

Ol' Pat ain't screwed down any too tight, is he?

Fundamentalists like Roberson and Osama are dangerous regardless of thier religion. We need to recognize hate speach for what it is, no matter where it comes from.

Excellent post!!!

It actually would be quite interesting to have Robertson and Osama in a sealed rubber-walled room and watch what'll happen!:D

Of course that one minor difference that Osama actively goes out and does the killing as opposed to Robertson who just reflects upon it.

Robertson is definitely way out there sometimes but to compare him to Osama is just ridiculous.

Pat is an idiot-- the Jew's were the Chosen people of yesteryear. After God sent his only Son, the Christians became his chosen people. God could care less about what happens to the land of Israel.

Okay...seems that Pat's not the only one with skewed thoughts. Ummmmm...God doesn't just break his covenants...God loves all the little children of the world? remember?
