Transmillennialism

Good afternoon Nancy!

Transmillennialism is defined as: The belief that the millennial reign of Christ brought about the change, or transformation of the ages, from the Old to the New Covenant in A.D. 70. Also known as covenant eschatology, or a preterist view of Scripture.

Preterism is theology just like futurism. Although often referred to as a "view" (though in the sense that it is a way to see scripture,) it is not a "world view" in that it does not seek to address how a fulfilled and realized Kingdom lifts up and comforts individuals, brings acceptance and healing and in so doing builds society up.

Transmillennialism balances the knowledge in our heads (Theology) with our love for God and others in our hearts (Worship) so that it flows from our hands in ministry (Service) to others. In short, it is the Head, Heart and Hands for the believer.

Transmillennialism encompasses three major areas of study, theology,as discussed here; history and culture of the first century; and future building for the church of the 21st century so that we may be a postive element for stabilizing culture so that following generations need not be terrified and terrorized by futurist thinking. It is taking people where they are, not to convert to doctrine (that is what the Jews did) but to bring them into relationship with God, just as Jesus said he was here to do and what he expects those of us that follow to continue to do. To illuminate others to the very real fact that they are now in God's presence...no waiting required.

Transmillennialism has been presented to Biblical scholars at Westminster Abby, Harvard University, The World Future Society's Annual Meeting in 2001 and to the leading Religious Leaders in Palestine including Elias Chacour who has been nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize. Many Futurist leaders in this country try unsucessfully to meet with him, and he turns them down. Instead he was the featured writer for Presence Magazine in 2001. This year, Dr. Naim Ateek who is the director of the Sabeel Theology Centre in Jerusalem is the featured writer.

G'day Nancy

Beth has explained well the main thrust of the Transmillennial angle on things. And it really does come down to our own personal "world view" -and the truth is, our theology does flavour our world view. Theologically speaking Transmillennialism is "preteristic" in nature, but as Beth said Transmillennialism involves more than this. It can be too easy to become bogged down in just theological argument [though there is a place for this], but if this is at the expence of neglecting our God given mandate to be "light" and "salt" in our world then what's the point of it all?

Unlike "futuristic" views that promote fear, pessimism and ultimately -abdication, Transmillennialism, being of a preteristic flavour, is very positive -seeking to motivate: aptitude-the head, attitude-the heart and action-the hands as we minister God's Presence in God's world to God's people -for as Psa 24:1 says:

The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and all they that dwell therein.

And as Paul went on to say in Acts 17:28-29:

"for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, "For we are also His offspring.' Therefore, since we are the offspring of God..."

God has given us the wonderful privilege of being His head heart and hands in reaching out to lost humanity [we being Christ's Body -Him being our Head] in ministering the restoration that is our "in Christ" as we come in faith to Him. Jesus comes to the heart because Jesus is here.

Good evening Nancy!

The LPM Site is aimed mostly at the theological. To understand better what Transmillennialism is may I suggest listening to Tim's interviews with John Anderson, then look at Presence Online. Presence deals with living transformed lives today and has practical or as I like to call them application articles with study questions at the end of the issue.

A new site will be launched this Fall that will replace the current LPM site, called Presence.tv. This site will feature traditional news and information, a message board as well as a weekly on-demand video broadcast. For those who already embrace fulfilled prophecy, it will be an oasis in the desert of futurism.

Your sister,

:pink: Thanks again Beth. I will be keeping me eye open for the new things coming this fall.

Somedays I just feel so lonely in my efforts to embrace preterism. I am a fish out of water right now. I know I can still show and give the love of Jesus, but don't know how to enter back into a church setting.
I appreciate all the places that are abvailable now that teach preterism.
Blessings

What I met by lonely, was that my friends and family are big time futurists. I don't agree with that anymore.
Preterism, is coming alive. Someday I will be able to worship with those who belive and teach the truth. Until then I will just have to wait. Its frustrating to sit in church when you know the doctrine is not being taught the right way. So I have been out of a 'Church" Setting for awhile. Somedays I want to go back and others I don't.

If the person who said"I find this very sad" Was making fun of me, Stick and stones and all that stuff.

No doubt Nancy some will interpret what you've just written as saying your knew found beliefs have taken you out of church -yet I don't believe this would be what you're saying [if anything my guess is that since you're discovering the reality of the "fulfilled message" i.e., covenant eschatology, your faith is being renewed -and that's great] -correct me if I'm wrong. :)

It is a struggle no doubt when all around the sea of "futurism" tosses to-and-fro, however, can I encourage you to avail yourself of the resources available to you via the net -there is good fellowship out there.

I too am in a futurist fellowship, however I make "fellowship" my yardstick -and doctrine after that -and yes it does grate sometimes, however I do hear what you're saying, so hang in there, you're heading in the right direction. :pink:

Thanks Davo for those kind words.
I am discovering the reality of the fulfilled message. It has just blown me away. Maybe I am just trying to soak in to much to fast.
I had been just spiritually dead for so long. And once I found out about preterism, I have been soaking it up like crazy. I feel like I am born again for really the first time in my life.
My faith is being renewed everyday. I have just spent 2 hours on line reading everything I can.
I guess my question is how to enter back into a church that preaches futurist views (most do) and feel comfortable with my views now and not get crazy. Even when I was a futurist, I had stopped going to church, because it was just so dead. I hadn't even heard of preterism then.
I use to sit in church and just cry out to the Lord, that I couldn't take this anymore. But I didn't know why.
But because preterism or churches that preach this way, are no where to be found around here, that leaves me going no where, or back to the futurist church.
Anyway, I am brain dead now. Its getting late. Something will work out.
I miss the singing and the fellowship. But then according to the people that run this forum, I am not even a Christian,(broke rule number6) Don't follow some creed.
Because I believe all has been fulfilled.
Anyway, I sure am learning a lot and appreciate all the posts. (well most of them anyway  )
Blessings

I am so excited. I know the Lord is helping me along here. YEAH!!

I'm very happy for you also Nancy! Tonight I will be in the fellowship of over 100 believers from all over the US and Canada. I wish I could describe to you what that is like. Perhaps if the Lord wills, we will one day meet at such a conference. One of the songs we will sing over the course of the 2 1/2 days is "I Will Never Be The Same Again." That song has great meaning to me and many of my transmill friends:

"I will never be the same again,
I can never return, I've closed the door.
I will walk the path, I'll run the race,
and I will never be the same again."

Like you, my faith has only grown.

Enjoy!

Your sister in the Lord not to far away in Ohio,

Beth,
Think of me while you are at the conference. I wanted to go so badly. But I know my husband is not ready. I thought maybe next year. We live just 40 minutes west of Chicago, so I don't think it would be out of the question to get there.

If they have a CD of songs is there someway I can order one. One thing I love is music. I have been listening to an older Steven Curtis Chapman CD. Because he sings that song, My Redeemer is Faithful and True Every thing he has said he will do.. :D
I just keep it blasting in the car where ever I go to remind me that everything the Lord said he would do he did!

Have a really great time.
Blessings

Nancy,

Perhaps this will help you relate to your futurist friends a little better. I know the Lord has been speaking to me about these things.

When a person receives a higher revelation or understanding, he or she will invariably become one of two things towards the body of Christ. Either that person will become an intercessor or a judge.

If he sets himself up as judge, he will look down upon those who do not have his understanding and condemn those who reject him. He may even grow intolerant of those around him and reject their fellowship. These types of folks, though they think they are wonderfully important in the kingdom of God, in reality they are of little use to the Lord.

An intercessor, although he might have a perspective of one above seated with Christ in the heavenly places, puts himself below those who may not have such a view. He becomes the servant to the very ones that might reject him.

An intercessor believes for another what that person or persons cannot or will not believe for themselves. Your futurist friends, whether they see it or not, are ones who abide in the presence of God and God’s presence abides in them. They are ones whom the Devil cannot touch, and they are in the midst of a very present kingdom of God. In that kingdom they are both kings and priests. An intercessor stands in these truths for others refusing to see the church in any other way than way the Lord sees it and has revealed in scripture. While at the same time praying as Paul did:

that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Ephesians 1:17 through Ephesians 1:23 (NKJV)

Are you wondering what to do with the understanding the Lord has given you? Your task is not to become a judge but an intercessor. As you do so, you will not be alone. Judges are the ones that usually end up alone. There are many intercessors even here on this forum who will stand with you in the eternal victory of Christ.

Thank you for that post. I have recieved so many nice things today. Just when I was getting so frustrated, A window of light has opened up.

I will take what you said to heart. In know way do I want to be a judge. I just want to know the truth. And I want to share the love that the Lord has given me.

Ozark,
I just read your post again. All of a sudden it came to me that just because my husband doesn't belive the way I do, doesn't mean it still isn't true for him also.
He can hang on to his futurist views for now, and I can pray for him and thank the Lord that the truth is also for him. He just doesn't know yet, what he really has!!
Boy has this been a light bulb day or what! :D

All of a sudden I feel like things are going to be ok. I can even step back into church again, not judgeing but intercessing, and that my friend feels good!! So I can be a preterist in a futurist church! (well miracles still do happen, right!) :p

Thank you
Nancy
