In Children's church we are developing a new teaching game/skit called Swashbuckler. I am going to dress up as a pirate and come out in front of the kids and engage in a sort of verbal swordfight. The kids will be given a list of bible verses to memorize a couple of weeks before. The Pirate represents the secular worldview and the kids can win the "swordfight" by quoting the proper scripture verse that we give them ahead of time or we may use multiple choice on an overhead. This is a work in progress. My task for the board is to give me examples of a worldview issue and a scripture verse to counter it. Thanks much.

Here are a couple of examples:

Swashbuckler.." People were not created by God! They evolved under water and climbed to dry land and became humans."

"Beware, lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ." Colosians 2:8

Swashbuckler...You don't have to do what your parents say. What do they know anyway!

"Children, obey your parents for this is well pleasing to the LORD." Colossians 3:20

Swashbuckler...You should get even with that guy. He's always so mean to you, why not think up something really mean to do back to him?

"Love your enemies, bless those who curse you and do good to those who hate you..."
Matthew 5:44

Swashbuckler...ah come on..so I said a little nasty four letter word. It's only a word!

"The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable.
But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse." Proverbs 10:32

Yes indeed. I will forward details of the game to a Sunday School supervisor that I know - if you don't mind.

Now, off the top of my head:

I should clean this messy site,
But the time is not yet right.
Now I want to fly my kite
I will do it all tonight

Be ready in season and out of season.

All of my friends do say
Doing it is O.K.
They'll laugh at me today
If I don't go their way.

Be not conformed to the world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Here is what we are doing with Swashbuckler. I will keep your input for the next edition. Below is a detailed description of the game and the sheet that went home with the kids. Feel free to use it if anyone is interested.

Pirate Challenge

Object: To have children learn Biblical responses to counter the secular world view.
Music: Monkey Island Game cut #20 (Intro) and #9 (background).

Materials: One line marked on the floor. Two plastic swords. The child with the sword has to stay behind the line to keep the children from charging the swashbuckler and to keep them out of “contact range”. The adult pirate should dress up to the hilt. He should act boisterous mean, as opposed to truly mean. When he is defeated he should cry out like he has been stabbed, and maybe even fall down.

Choose four child players and allow them to dress up as pirates or sword fighters. Use two plastic swords. Give one to the pirate and give one to the first player. The game is played as each player for himself and is single elimination.

Opening Narration: “What you are about to witness is the a battle of two swords. (Music intro starts) The sword of the bad pirate and the sword of the Word of God which is sharper than any two edged sword, able to separate …”
The adult pirate enters after the music introduction and says, “Ahoy Mateys, whose gunna walk the plank taday?”
(Other comments to be made at the appropriate time. “Four for shark bait! Well, shiver me timbers it’s a wee lassie (laddie)).
Pirate: “Un guard!” He and the child raise their swords. The adult pirate will make a statement that is from a secular worldview. The child must answer the statement with a Christian worldview. The appropriate Christian responses will be given to the children in the form of a handout to be studied at home.

If the defender does not give the correct response in the allotted time, the swashbuckler commands that he “walk the plank.” The way to say walk the plank needs to be memorized so that it does not sound harsh.
Options are:
You may walk the plank.
I hope you can swim.
It’s shark feeding time.
Here sharky sharky sharky. Come and get it.
You won’t stay dry today
I hope you brought your ear plugs.
It’ll be a bad hair day for you.
I hope you don’t have on cement shoes.
After the swashbuckler tells the child to walk the plank, the soundman plays the “splash” sound effect.
A ROCC Hop, not the pirate, gives the child a super cyber coin and the child returns to his seat.

If the child gives the correct answer, he remains standing, and lets the next child play. Play continues until only one child remains and he is the “Pirate Buster Extraordinaire!”

Pirate Challenge – A new game at Kids ROCC
Parents, starting on Sunday February 10th, we will start a new game at Kids ROCC. In order to win, your child must know the appropriate response to the Pirate’s challenge. Please have your child learn this handout at home. We will play “Pirate Challenge” for a number of weeks starting on Sunday, February 10th. Please help your child (children) learn the appropriate response to each of the pirate’s statements. When practicing at home, the parent should read the Pirate’s line and the child should respond with the children’s line. It is not necessary for the child to learn the scripture reference. It is included only in case you may want to read the verses in context or discuss them with your child.

Pirate:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp I believe in God! I do well for myself.
Child: You believe in God, you do well, the demons also believe and tremble!
James 2:19

Pirate:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp There are many paths that lead to God.
Child: Jesus said, I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father but by me!
John 14:6

Pirate:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp I am wise. I am so wise that I don’t fear nothing or no body!
Child:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs 9:10

Pirate:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Come, serve me in my house and I will make you a ruler and make you rich with
silver and gold.
Child:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of
the wicked. Psalm 84:10

Pirate: You should do what important people-like movie stars and professional athletes
do. They knows best.
Child: We must obey God, rather than men. Acts 5:29

Pirate:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp God did not create people! They evolved under water and climbed onto dry land
and became human beings.
Child:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him.
Genesis 1:27

Pirate:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Hey laddie (lassie), you don’t have to do what your parents say. What do they
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp know?
Child:&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp Children, obey your parents for this is pleasing to the Lord. Eph 6:1
