Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:
2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
This was a covenant promise which God mad to Abraham foretelling the coming and the purpose of Jesus Christ. Since God made this statement, He has been in the business of blessing families. Gods purpose in Jesus coming was to bless al the people of the earth with the eternal life and to remove the curse of sin.
Curse is the opposite of blessing. God is the blesser and Satan is the curser.
A simple definition of blessing is: to receive, accept, ascribe high value to, and consider a person as a success.
In the Hebrew language, the verb to bless is baruch. One of the primary meanings of this word is, to empower to prosper A good definition, then of cursing would be to disempower from prospering
However, economic prosperity is not all that this word need. We could better define this verb to prosper as to thrive, succeed, or do well. In the Hebrew language, this word primarily means, to have a pleasant fulfilling journey. Thus, to prosper would mean to have a pleasant journey through your life. So, in combining these definitions, to bless would mean to empower the one being blessed to thrive, succeed, and do well and to have a pleasant, fulfilling journey through life. On the other hand, to curse would mean to dis-empower or to disable the one being cursed from thriving, succeeding, or having a pleasant or fulfilling journey through life.
Now the question is what do you do with your children, do you bless them ALWAYS? Or when you are down, or angry or just not in the mood, - do you curse them by telling them they are not good enough - are a failure - cannot do anything right?
Whether parents realize it or not, they hold a powerful key to the future lives of their children in blessing and cursing. Through blessing, parents can literally empower their children to prosper and thrive as adults in their marriages, family relationships, businesses, ministries, health and finances. Through the curse parents can ruin, cripple, and literally prevent their children from thriving and prospering in all these same areas of adult life.
The good news is that Jesus Christ has come to this earth as a Redeemer to restore to your life and to the lives of your children everything that the kingdom of darkness has stolen.
My heart just breaks inside of me when I went to the store and heard how mothers cursed their children. I often hear the words Are you stupid? You are so dumb and good for nothing. I know its not easy to raise children but we have to come into a habit of blessing instead of cursing.
Here is a prayer for all parents who did curse their children without realizing what they do. Please personalize this letter by adding your childrens names and pray it aloud several times.
FATHER I COME WITH A BROKEN HEART TO YOU AND I REPENT OF CURSING MY CHILDREN. FATHER I ALSO REPENT OF LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. I BIND ALL PRINCIPALITIES, POWERS, RULERS OF DARKNESS AND ALL SPIRITUAL WICKEDNESS THAT I PUT INTO THE LIFES OF MY CHILDREN. IM PULLING DOWN ALL STRONG HOLDS OF THESE SPIRITS IN THEIR LIFES. I CASTING DOWN ALL IMAGINATIONS AND EVERY THING IN THEIR LIFES THAT EXALTED ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD. I BRING TO CAPTIVITY EVERY THOUGHT THEM TO THE OBEDIENCE OF GOD IN JESUS NAME.
FATHER I PLEAD DEVINE PROTECTION OVER MY CHILDREN. I ASK TO HAVE MERCY ON ME AND SEND ANGLES TO WATCH OVER THEM IN JESUS NAME. FATHER I PUT YOUR NAME ON MY CHILDREN AND I ASK ALL BLESSINGS TO DWELL IN THEIR LIFES. LORD PLEASE MAKE ME SENSETIVE TO THE HOLY SPIRITS LEADING AND TEACHING.
